I think the gremlins have decided to make my car their new home, as the alarm/central locking is not working

Press the remote fob and nothing happens.At all.This occured last week after the car was put together after taking the carpet out to dry out....

It all works when operated through the diagnostic, alarm activates, sensors scan, central locking locks. Just that nothing works through the fob It was literally working one day , stopped the next.....There are no fault codes stored on any of the components, which makes it more confusing......, any ideas out there?

BTW, i have changed the batteries in both the remotes

Perhaps the issue is thqt the code sequences have got out of step...? I thought the fobs were intelligent enough to re-sync after a battery change...

Where are you, I know a guy that is top with Alarms etc and would be able to give you advice over the phone. He is based around Swindon.

may be the battery in your fob is dead

You can resync the fobs by inserting the key into the drivers door, and pressing arm/unarm.

Proceedure has a little more to it that this, you could overwrite an existing key by doing this. There are four separate key positions.
You need to save the position too.Cant tell you the proceedure due to security issue, someone else here may know, if so PM only do not repeat on this site please.
Although you could do this just to check if the sync is out.

Can you just check this please.
With ignition on, turn on radio. turn ignition off and remove key.
If radio stays on, a micro switch in the ignition lock is faulty or just sticking. This sends a signal to the central lock pump in the rear O/S of the boot to disable the radio fobs. If your key is in the ignition, you may have notice the buttons dont work on the remote.
This is more likely the cause.[/b]

check the battery in the key fob first, then check the fuses

I have put batteries in both the daily key fob and the spare. Fuses were the first thing i checked. Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Even when you lock the door with the key, the car is still not alarming; no dull honk and no flashing from the light by the door pins......
I have pulled fault codes and none show up

Time for the main dealer maybe.....

If both remotes stopped at the same time and no faults logged, batteries replaced and you have done a quick sync as godfather suggested, sounds like the cental locking pump is being instructed to disable itself by the ignition switch contact, either due to sticking micro switch OR the wire shorting or faulty central lock pump.
Down you local centre if you are not sure.... Ask them to check ignition contact, may save you lots in diagnosis time. Quite common.
Only proper way to diag this type of fault is to go through the motions.

A to that man. I dropped the car into Audi and asked them to specifically look at the S contact/ ignition micro switch. This was indeed found to be the problem. Morpheous would have been quite correct in his diagnosis of the radio staying on when the key was taken from the ignition.
I could not check this myself as i had fitted an aftermarket sat nav unit myself and this was wired to a permanent live.This was working perfect when installed.
The problem arose when i had someone remove the interior and carpet to dry out - blocked battery tray drain - and when it was refitted the 'nav head unit was replaced incorrectly....

With the head unit removed and the keys re-coded everything is back to normal.....I put the Concert unit back in until i have time to put the 'nav back in.

Nice one, Good to know its sorted one way or the other.
Try to help out to save on Centre diag time. (FATS can sod off though, on your own dude).
