Hey, guys it looks like the MAF problems are not just particular to the Audi S4, RS4

My dad bought two cars this week and we were looking around for resource forums like this.

The first car, and dont laugh (its for work) is a Ford Scorpio. We managed to find a website www.fordscorpio.com and would you believe that a common fault with those cars are MAF problems. And there supplied by no other than Bosch.

The second car is a Honda S2000. I found a site called www.s2ki.com these cars can also have problems with there MAF's (Bosch) and something called the MAP sensor which basically controls the VTEC.....

So it seems a common problem with Bosch equipment. If only Hitachi made Diverter Valves too

Having said that my car has Bosch MAF and orginal DV's and TBB and has done 74k with no problems......

Yeah, it's common knowledge with mechanics working on the whole VW/Audi range that Bosch MAFs from around the late 90's fail with alarming regularity! Apparently, diesel golfs/passats have an appetite for them.

Bosch makes thousands and thousands of products...most of which are high quality.

I agree, my dishwasher is excellent :D

MAF's fail across the whole VAG range, most people will never notice though.

Cheers

Hold on dudes MAP sensor works on inlet manifold pressure.
Air Mass sensor works on air mass into manifold.
Mass sensor works by measuring the current required to keep an element heated to a given temp. As air flows over the element, it is cooled, the signal output to the ECU can thus be calculated.
MAP sensor has a vac hose from the manifold (in most cases, some are fitted directly to manifold) to a pressure sensing element in either the ECU or a stand alone unit which does same job of converting the element deflection into an output signal.
Not the same sensor but both used for engine load signal.
New A3 are now using the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP)
Now known as Duo Valve.
Yippy no more CRAP Bosch mass meters to change.

Morpheous, MAF = Mass Air Flow.

What ever dude Its designated G70 by Audi and Hot film Air Mass Meter.
Call it what you like, but as this is about Audi cars, why not call it what the factory call it?
