B6 Alloys

This is mainly for Carps or S4RS4 but I have some B6 wheels that I am fitting onto my B5 S4. I know Carps used 3mm spacers at front and 5mm spacers at the rear.

I have tried them on my car and the fronts will not turn as they rub on the caliper so 3mm sounds about rights. On the rear tho there is no rubbing and probably a 2mm gap, not big enough I guess.

My question is, can I get away with 3mm spacers at the rear as well?

I guess I could buy some 3mm cheap spacers and try them out....

If you could let me know your thoughts that would be great.

Obviously the B5 Avus wheels are ET35 and the New S4 Avus wheels are ET45.... does that mean there is 10mm difference between them?

B5 S4 wheels are ET45.
All Audi 5x112 wheels are either ET43 or ET45.

Be careful when using spacers, they are not really recommended when fitting wheels, unless they have been properly machined and are hubcentric.
Also, you will need to use longer wheel bolts as well, to accomodate for the extra spacer, be it 3mm or 5mm.

Try the smaller spacer first on the rear, and check for all round clearance, while the car is fully raised, and under full compression.

Ok I did not realise that my wheels are ET43 or 45. I think what I will do golfather is buy some cheap 3mm spacers all round fit them and just get my whole family to sit in the back, maybe one in the boot :lol: and go around the block see if I can here any strange noises.

Then order the correct hubcentric ones from MTM or AMD..... Philwalker also sells some. (I dont want to spend 40-70quid a pair and find there wrong where as cheapies are only 8quid a pair..... need to save for the H&R setup!

I used Eibach 5mm spacers to clear the 6 pot callipers and eventually settled on 8mm cos it looked just right. I have no rubbing issues with coil-over suspension and 235 tyres. Be careful though to use the correct length bolts, torque them up properly and re-check them after a few miles. I actually had a wheel come off at Castle Combe!! The car had been for wheel alignment and I did not check the torque nor re-check them. One more thing - never fit those cheapy universal spacers. I fitted them when I got my RS6 alloys fitted because it was all the garage had. Almost immediately, my brakes started juddering - the discs had warped! After talking to many technical people, I am sure this is the cause of the discs failing. They had only done 1000 miles before fitting the spacers. I skimmed them, changed the spacers and have had no problems since.

I will get some Eibach ones orderd. I have the cheap ones on at the moment to make sure all the clearence's are correct. I have 3mm spacers on front and rear. And everything looks good.

I only have standard brakes. I think if I have any wider spacers on the front the wheels will protrude.

I will get some photo's up once I have taken some and you can all see my Audi S4 Allroad :lol:

Eibach supply spacers at 5mm these are £25 a pair. The next size spacer Eibach do is 8mm (£28 a pair) these you will probably need longer bolts, in this instance
I supply either a OZ or BBS fitting kit. This contains longer bolt the BBS kit has a locking wheel bolt inc
The OZ kit is £25 the BBS is £45

Shame Eibach done sell 3mm per side spacers. I like the look. I think anymore than 3mm on the front will make the wheel look like its sticking out to much.

Maybe when the car is lowerd the wheel will pull itself back in a bit!

Philip I maybe in contact soon for at least one set of 5mm spacers.

You reckon you can tell 2mm difference by eye? Put the 5mm on all round, I think that is what is on my car in the gallery with the B6 wheels. Looks good to me. Lowering will definitely help the look.

I made enquiries to AMD last regarding wheel spacers for fitting B6 Avus alloys to the B5 S4. They told me that if you are running standard brakes they fit OK without spacers and that they have installed several sets on B5 S4’s.

I fitted my wheels at the weekend and they do indeed fit without any spacers although clearance between the rear tyres and the upper suspension link is very very tight. There have been no indications of rubbing but I'm not completely comfortable with it. I'm keeping a close eye on it and will probably take the wheels off again to allow for closer inspection. Unlike gavsteryoung my fronts are OK without any clearance problems with the brake calipers.

The wheels are fitted with 235/40 Dunlop SP Sport 01 tyres.

Thats strange Ian,

My front wheel would not even turn it was such a tight fit on the caliper. The rear was fine. But I was more comfortable with the extra space the 3mm gave.

What year is your S4, I know they changed the brakes sometime in 1999.

My car is a 2000 model so there must be a difference with the clearance on the calipers and these cars. Even with the 3mm spacers its almost touching.

I'm still torn between B6 alloys and S8 wheels. At the moment I'm more keen on the S8 wheels but I'll keep you in mind. Cheers.
