Used S4 - adjustment for non-leather??
Used S4 - adjustment for non-leather??
All, first post(!)
Looking at buying a S4 Avant - 00(W) FASH 43K, private seller is after 16K and it's local, good un's seem to be like hens teeth up my way.
Only thing is it's got a cloth interior, I want leather (picky eh?!). I've looked at the cost of re-trimming it but I'm after your thoughts on what kind of cash I should be looking to haggle the guy down to.
Cheers

Cheers David, I look forward to some banter in the near future!!
I'm up in sunny Aberdeen (Vogts must go!!) which makes car purchasing a pain in the a***!! Hence the reason I'm interested in this S4, albeit hide-less.
Can't understand why someone would spend 37K in the first instance and not get it clad in cow?!
Any ideas's on numbers as it stands??
Mooooooo!!!!!!

What about this one?
Looks to be in superb condition, low mileage and leather!!
I believe it is also located in Scotland.

Also, I can vouch for silver being a very easy colour to keep clean - even when it's dirty it still looks clean!
But then, silver was always my preferred colour when I was buying my S4, so I guess I'm a bit biased
Also, I'd avoid ones without leather, unless it's really cheap or your really desparate for THAT car. The leather looks better and will age much better.

I'd avoid non-leather, I wouldn't buy a non-leather luxury car such as an s4, like you said, why spend £37k on a car and not have leather, theres too many leather ones about to be buying a cloth jobbie.
Plus silver is a wicked colour to keep clean. I'm always gob smacked by how dirty it was when I clean it up, I leave it a couple of weeks and the once the dirts off it just shines, but i never really see it get dirty if that makes sense. I've got the blue alcantara and black leather combo on mine, I love it, apart from the cheap looking blue handle bits on the doors, mines just ticked over 70k on a feb 99 S plate, the back ones look fine but the front grab handles have been worn with people getting in and out.
Don't get a car retrimmed, no point, you won't find a manufacturers quality trimmer that'll do the same job like how my interior is, and if you do find one, you'll be paying loads for it and you'll never see the money again. Just my 2p.
I used to run a heavily modified mk2 golf and spent £8k on it, although I loved the car, I lost about 80% of that money when I came to sell it. I'd never modify again (within reason), mite as well save up the cash and buy a better car.

I have spent over a month looking for "just the right S4" - my advise is don't compromise, you will regret. People keep telling me "the right car will come along, just be patient!"
I would have bought Andy's car, but for only one thing - that little sticky out bit on the end - I simply dont want an estate car.
Depending on the rest of the spec of the car you mention, I would have thought it was worth about £15k providing it's in condition.
Happy hunting - PM me if you would like to pick my brains of my experiences in finding the right S4.
Rgds, Clive

If you can get a good deal on the car (and I have no idea what that might be), then you could fit some Recaro front seats. Because Recaro was not standard on the S4, they are a bit rare. I wouldn't bother with a Recaro Bench seat. Having recently removed mine for a Sat Nav install, I can't believe that they are very expensive to buy even new.

If I could wring a good price out of the clothy then I had intended spending the saving on a bespoke leather retrim - I'm not sure if the guy will appreciate my intended offer though (sub 14), bearing in mind he has it up for 15900 - 'kick in the chanks' stuff.
I went through a similar hunt when I bought my 964 (now dearly departed) so I've learnt my lesson!! It's always seems to be a buyers market.
Cheers
