Winter Warmups......

I always wait for my oil tempreture gauge to move away from the bottom mark.

I have not yet owned my S4 in the Winter. And I must say im liking the increased performance the cold is giving me. But this morning was wet, windy and about 11degree's.

So I started my 10mile journey to work. Which takes about 30mins because of the traffic. Driving the car very gentley. When I'm half way 15mins into my journey still no oil temp.... so I kept driving gentley...... when I arrived to work, this was where it was at.......

Is this normal for cold days? Do short journeys = No Fun anymore!!

Yep, same as my car. Water temp gets up quickly but if I do nothing daft rev wise and keep them below 2.5/3k, sometimes when its cold, my il temp will not move at all. On a decne tcruise at 80/90mph, my temp sits below 100degC.

Ironically the quickest way to warm up the oil is to 'use' the turbos! However you are right to take it steady until the oil warms - spinning the turbos fast when the oil is cold is the worst time for wear...

I don't like driving with the oil cold either. I hold the car at 7k rpm for 5 minutes before I set off each day, and bury the throttle at every opportunity. This way the oil is nice and warm for the journey ahead.
