Thinking of fitting a Tanoga Short Shifter on my otherwise standard S4 - anyone know whether this is a declarable modification for insurerers or could it be considered as a factory option along with the other extras my car came out of the factory with :?:

Yes it is declarable because it is not the same specification as the OEM shifter. Some insurers (NFU Mutual for example) will not charge any extra premium for a short-shifter.
