Miltek Exhaust - Dual or single ?
Miltek Exhaust - Dual or single ?
Anyone on here had any real life experiences between the Miltek single and dual?
AMD suggest the dual is far too noisy, but I've heard the single bore Miltek and it sounds quite tame.
I'm looking for a system which is throaty, and sounds off the V6, yet is a comfortable non boomy motorway cruiser.
Cheers.

I think there have been some previous comments on here about the different back pressures (or lack of back pressure) on the single vs the dual Miltek. Can't remember what they said, but you could try and search for them using the engine.
Personally, I've got the dual and agree with the previous comments - low, muted fruity sound but not too loud and Essex Boy.

I run the dual too, and dont find the sound too loud. It's actually just right, which means the single system may be a bit on the quiet side.
Have a question for the fellow Milltek dual users: the exhaust note seems rich and throaty at low to medium revs, but when i push it beyond 4K rpm, the noise seems to taper off and the whole car seems eerily quiet on the high end. I dont think I'm losing power there, as we all know the S4 is not supposed to see much bang at hi revs anyway. (My car is not yet chipped)
Regards,
Eric

I guess it's a bit quieter above 4k if you put it like that. My car is chipped so it produces max bhp a little higher up the rev range. However, when it is spinning above 4K its moving quiet fast, so doesn't this mean that the sound get left behind a bit?

Are you discussing the cat-back or the full system. Without the cats the exhaust is still restricted so there will be a tail-off of gas flow well before the redline and this may result in the change in sound.
As BlackShadow suggests, if you go a bit faster then the sound waves get left behind. The ones at the front get compacted, and if you go fast enough you might hear the sonic boom when you match the speed of sound. You may need you window down to hear it though.

Don't leave any papers on the back seat when doing that sonic boom stuff with the window open.
Do you have the cats fitted on your car, Dippy? Is it louder with the cats, than just with the cat-back? At low revs? At high revs? Or both?

Yes I do, and I had the cats fitted after living with just the cat back for several months. The noise is significantly increased over the whole rev range, but especially at the top end. When I really give the car some stick, the exhaust noise is quite noticeable.
However at idle and slow speeds, based on the lack of reaction from people, I don't think it's anywhere near 'boy racer' loud.

LOL BS.
I don't remember exactly the extra power but yes it did boost it by around 20-30. However more importantly the increased gas flow at the top end means that the power delivery is now almost flat to the redline. This is the most noticeable advantage: I'm sure you have all noticed when you accelerate to the redline in the higher gears, you can feel the power tailing off in the last 1000 revs or so. I used to find this such that it was always best to change gear well before the redline. When you have free-flow cats this no longer happens - revving to the redline is now a sensible option!
However I can note one other thing which may be of interest to KayGee. When I had the cats fitted AmD cocked up the timing and Geoff had gone home so couldn't do a remap. So I drove the car with it's original remap for a week or two. Then I went back for the remap. What a difference! So based on my experience, to gain full advantage of the cats you must have a custom remap (to increase fuelling at the top end).
Sitas - I'm not sure, but the cost is in the cats so there's probably no point not having the downpipes.
