Oil capacity between dipstick min/max

On the way back from France on Sunday, my low oil warning light came on. I pulled over and topped it up. I'm not sure exactly how much I put in (doh!) but it was around 1/3 litre.

I checked the dipstick at the roadside and it was back just above the min, but the road was on an incline. So I decided to continue on until the car was level to check again. When I did so, the level was above max!

Can anyone tell me for sure what the difference between the min and max levels are in terms of ml of oil?

I've always put a litre in when it gets to min.

I will tell you tomorrow as it is due some tlc.

That said, my car is at 53k miles now and hardly uses any oil, even with track use.

It used to use 2-3 litres every 10k miles when it was 'young'.

I' not sure if I should have worried then or I should start worrying now :?

I just changed the oil and so I think it is about a litre. That means that my oil level didn't get critically low after all and I did put too much in. Glad I've changed the oil now so I'm not risking the cats any more.

it's a litre between min and max, my old 2.8 used to drink the stuff, so I know about putting in oil! :-)
