Nice job today....
My S4 has recently developed a light valve "tap" bit like the tappet sound of old...Removed the left cam box one lobe from the lower exhaust cam worn badly....So a new exhaust cam orderd at a not bad £120 and a set of tappets as well....Shame, Schrick do not list cams for the S4...!
Never seen a cam wear like than, especialy as it has had Mobile one in from new....Most Vag cams that I have seen/worked on have shown no wear....60,000 miles with oil/filter at 5k....
After finishing the job it looks at if the cam had not been hardened correctly as the other three cams are perfect.....Bit of a fiddle to do though, love to know how many hours labour the "steelers" would charge for doing it??

Welcome to the site Philip.

I'd guess that would be a £ 500 job for a dealer. So much better if you can do it yourself, I wish I could.

I'm sure you could do it David, it's whether you'd want to that matters!

I've only ever done one cam change in the past, quite a few years ago. I had to smear the cam with black gunk and then make sure the revs stayed over 4000 for several minutes. That was quite a harrowing experience I could do without!
