New remote batteries?

Post by snbS4 » Tue Dec 30, 2003 3:57 pm

Hi All
By coincidence maybe but both of my remotes have stopped working at the same time i.e. neither will set/unset the alarm/lock the car.
I have fitted new batteries to one remote but no improvement!
Does anyone know if they need to be programmed to the car and whether there are instructions in the handbook please?
Many thanks in advance.

The keys can go out of synch with the car. There are instructions in the handbook about re-synching them - IIRC it is just a case of unlocking the car and then starting it with the key. If that still doesn't work you may need to take them to a dealer (or VAG-COM). I had a Golf with which the spare key refused to synch, and I had to get the car reprogrammed to recognise the key.
Odd that you lost both at the same time though...

EM Pulse maybe

Had the same thing myself. Like Carps says - starting the engine normally resyncs the key.

OK so i followed the resynch process on one of the keys (with new batteries installed) but could not get the leds in the top of the doors to flash/acknowledge. Darnit!
This morning on my daily commute both of the indicators on the dash came on at the same time and stayed on for maybe 10 to 15 seconds and then were flickering. The hazard switch is not clicking and the indicators do not work while this is happening! Having arrived at work I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds as they were still doing their own thing even with the ignition off
Methinks I have an alarm problem to start the New Year with!
The decision is whether to go to the dealer to diagnose or straight to my alarm chap??
Happy New Year to all
Rgds
