I have an Audi S4 1999. Does the Oil Indicator light warn you when Oil is low in the car?

The light is for low pressure, not level. I don't know if low level would cause low pressure and if it would be too late if it did. It might seem low-tech, but the engine has a dipstick for checking oil level.

Oops, I mean the DIS (driver's information system) not the light (that is WAY too late!!).

according to the manual, if the DIS shows low oil, it's telling you to run out and check your oil level straight away as you need to top up immediately. it's related to your oil level not pressure (i think!?).

The dis does show low oil level. It comes on when the oil is at the low mark on the dipstick.
