Hi and K-16 questions

Post by AFAP18 » Wed Dec 17, 2003 6:29 pm

Hi
Nino from the Imola RS 4 recomended this forum. I heard about this year Challenge and well Congratulations!! Maybe next year I have the opportunity to go to the event. I have a S4 avant with 34.000 Kms.
I need to put new turbos, cause my K03 were blown last weekend, and I was wondering if the S4 is the apropriante car of these up-grade. Have you ever done this kind of up-grade? What changes should be made?

Hi and welcome to RS246.com.....

A number of us S4 owners have had out turbos changed for the K04 set-up from the RS4. You don't say where your from but I assume it's not the UK so it's difficult to advise where you should go to get this done.

I'm in the UK and whilst I'm still under Audi warranty at the moment, how much would it cost to change to 04's when and if they go?
Just interested really

Hi Andre and welcome to RS246
I have personally never heard of anyone fitting K16s to an S4 before, but I'm sure it could be done.
You would probably need to uprate most of the engine internals though
MTM has an RS4 with them and it runs at 600bhp!

Well, I live in Brazil, As Imola driver said. I can import parts from Europe or even from EUA. I just can´t find the appropriate S4 kit K-16. If the motor uses the same space as the RS 4, fitment would not be a problem. But them I will have to change internals, so the motor does not blow in the first 20 miles.
But I need to know what kind of changes has to be done. I know that basically the manifold, the clucth, Y pipe, and what else?

I know that awe tunning made this upgrade with hybrid K04/K16. The car is making around 432 at the wheels, but reliabilty is a problem. The car got in flames during a Shootout.
Thanks for all the responses

Jeff,

£4,300 plus VAT?????? Surely they must be doing something more than just turbos; are there lots of pipework mods and electrics?

I'd better keep my warranty up to date for another year then!!!

Thanks for the info!

Regards

Rob

If you need an bolt on kit you should stick to RS4 K04's.

AWE's beast is custom build and the fire was from turbo-oil pipe failure.

You cant put bigger turbos on unless you either cut some of the firewall or rearrange the turbos higher up. Some tuning shops use hybrids (k04/16) that give some more power at higher revs. I'm going to go RS4 k04 route when my k03's go.

The AmD K04 set-up for £4300 includes the Turbos, Full stainless exhaust including the cats and a remap. This takes around 4 days as a turbo change requires engine out. If you also change the air intake, injectors, fuel pump and MAF for the equivalent RS4 parts your looking at another £2000 but you end up with 430BHP reliable.....

Hi Audifreak,

If you are thinking of the RS4 turbochargers upgrade, then I definately wouldn´t just replace only the turbo´s.

The RS4 turbochargers goes together with
RS4 injectors
RS4 fuel pump
RS4 fuel presure regulator
and it good to replace the anti pump valves.

This upgrade, should give you arround 330 reliable HP according to the MTM standards.

If you replace the full exhaust system (down pipes + metal kats + middle and rear silencer) with a special setup on the dyno you should get around 370 HP.

The you can also replace the exhaust manofolds, with the MTM one which should get you to 390 HP.

If you want reliable HP according to the MTM standards, that is what I would do. Of course you can continue with other RS4 parts like the full RS4 intake
RS4 air box
RS4 air mass meter
RS4 intercoolers
RS4 charge air up pipes
RS4 throttle body
RS4 intake manifolds

and will get over 400 reliable HP. And if you go so high, don´t forget about the RS4 aditional oil cooler.

From my point of view, if you want RELIABLE HP, go with the MTM standards, if you want more, go elsewere!

Jeff mentioned that you can get 430 reliable HP with the few modifications he mentioned. If it would be so easy, the standard RS4 would have something like 500 HP.

It´s up to you!

Nikolas

My car produces 395BHP with K04s and full exhaust from AmD reliable.....I don't know where your information comes from but a K03 S4 will produce 320-330bhp with a remap.

All your figures are very low...and don't match mine or most UK S4s experience...I'm very surprised at your statement.
