1999 S4 Avant security

Post by teknobod » Mon Oct 27, 2003 5:20 pm

Can anyone tell me what the rating of the standard security on a 1999 (T plate) S4 avant is?
ie Thatcham CAT1 (alarm)
Thatcham CAT2 (immobiliser)

Cheers

Andy

I insured mine through admiral, and told them that it had a manufacturers alarm / immobiliser.

I also asked them to quote for one with an extra thatcham Cat2, and it came out to be the same price!

They've been good for me, upgraded my insurance from a '98 S4 to a 2001 RS4 for £15 for 6 months

Thanks for the reply Ross.
I am going to have a CAT1 alarm fitted to the car anyway but wondered what the specs of the factory alarm/immobiliser were.
Has anyone been told by their insurance company that they have to have a Tracking device fitted to the car (S4) as a requirement of the policy?

I have a later model S4 and I believe that it is theoretically good enough for cat 2, but in reality has not been Thatcham approved. It's also useless as the audible alarm is so quiet that it's laughable.

I steered clear of any insurance company which insisted on tracker or similar.

The only time I heard my S4's alarm was when I sold it, and the guy wanted to know what it sounds like. I had a 98 S4 avant, and the horn sounder was under the middle of the car, and not in the engine bay where I would have thought it would be!

My alarm guy says the std alarm system is crap . It ensure's insurance approval but if you wanted to stop the car being nicked rather than claiming the the money from the insurance, then it is time to upgrade.

So what should it be upgraded to in order to STOP the car being nicked?
