What's the typical oil consumption for a standard S4 ?
Mine is 99My which has 47k on the clock and has used about 4 litres in the last 5000 miles. Is this normal ? There are no signs of oil leaks.

Hi Stan,
And welcome
This isn't normal. My '98 S4 doesn't use any oil in between services.
Interestingly my old A4 2.8Q used to drink a pint or so every 1000 miles, but my S4 doesn't loose a drop.

I haven't had to put any oil in over the last 10k miles. But I did have to put some water in following my recent trackday - I'm hoping that it boiled away, as the temp gauge was hovering around 100deg for most of the session.

I think that minimal oil consumption is not an issue as the way that the engine breathes it recirculates potential oil back into the air intake, which is why when cold some engines appear smokey
IMHO nothing too much to worry about
Just keep an eye on it

My car has done 50k miles and uses 1-2 litres per 10k miles and significantly more with trackday use.
I think I read somewhere that 1 litre / 1000 miles is acceptable so I reckon its normal. Worth checking with the dealer though. If you are using AVS oil, have a look at the 'Oil' thread in this forum because you can buy it much cheaper than the dealer prices.
Nige, 100 degrees seems hot ?

My oil temp easily gets to 100 when driven hard.
I think oil consumption varies from engine to engine. I've done just over 30,000 miles and I only very rarely need to add any oil between services...
...then again I change all the oil anyway every 5000 miles or so!

Dave, Nige is talking about water at 100 degrees, not oil.

Oh yes - didn't read his post properly.
My water temp gauge seems to read 90 no matter how hard I drive.
