Is standard S4 suspension same as A4 Quattro?

Post by tdiquattro » Mon Sep 01, 2003 9:06 am

Just a quick one, does anyone know if the standard 1999 S4 springs and shocks are the same as the standard A4 Quattro of the same year?

Thanks,

Nige.

Not sure about the shockers.

However, the springs are the 'sport' springs, so if your car had the 'sport' suspension option it should have the same springs as the S4.

Well, that's what the dealer told me anyway

If in doubt, why not get someone to check the parts numbers on etka (or have a look yourself on the russian site posted last week).

Cheers,
John.

That was quick!
Thanks John, I asked because of this set on ebay.....

I thought as much, all the A4 Quattros have the lowered sports setup as standard, so mine is the same. I had just wondered if the S4 was even lower/stiffer!

I pass on the ebay set then, cheers, Nige.

I thought the S4 had lighter aluminium parts in its suspension setup?

Dan,
it may well do, but I was told the springs were the same (they still have to carry approx the same body weight).

I'd recommend checking first before you pass on those bits Nige. I could always be talkig bo!!ox, and I'd hate to be the reason you missed out on a bargain

Why not mail the seller and ask if the parts have any identifying details (parts numbers, coloured blobs on the springs, etc)
I've not looked at the parts, so appologies if this is already given in the advert.

Cheers,
John.
p.s. We have a virus here which has taken part of the network down, so I'mn killing some time

Hi Toasty m8ty, (I'm still mucking about with my front brakes!)

I was only looking at changing the springs and shocks to the S4 ones, dunno about the rest of the linkages/etc, I know the front hubs are different, don't know about the front and rear arms etc.

Thanks John, I will drop the seller a line for details just in case!

I would be very very suprised if the springs/dampers were the same.

I say this as the S4 runs a great bute of a 2.7 V6 combined with twin turbos which is as heavy as the new 4.2 V8! So hence I can't believe the 1.8T comes anywhere close. Better to go for a model specific suspension kit.

I think the S4 has a 10mm lower ride height than any A4, so that is one obvious difference and as stated above, it carries a much heavier engine so the springs and dampers are completely different too.

Not compatible IMHO
