S4 (B5) with S4 (B6) wheels - pictures

Post by Carps » Sat Jul 19, 2003 9:32 am

I have uploaded some pictures to my gallery of my noggy S4(B5) with S4(B6) wheels, if anyone is interested
They are fitted with 3mm spacers at the front to clear the brake calipers, and 5mm spacers at the rear to clear the upper suspension arms. The wheels are nicely in the bodyline, and there has been no rubbing thus far
Fronts have 30mm bolts, rears have 35mm long bolts. The standard bolt is 27mm.
There is also a comparison shot of the 2 wheels side by side.

Yes they are original Audi.
I got them from the German Ebay site - http://www.ebay.de
Just do a search for "Audi S4 18". It seems the fellas over there are changing their wheels for aftermarket immediately as there have been a fair few sets with less than 50km. Mine were brand new still with the Audi part number stickers and barcodes on the wheels and tyres. Including shipping they worked out around £750. There have been sales from between about 1000 euro and all the way upto about 1800 euro.

Yes he is.

Presumably the rolling circumference for your new wheels is different and will affect speedo and SatNav?

The rolling circumference is around 3.5cm (1.74%) greater with the new tyres than the old. According to my GPS, my speedo read fast anyway, and it is now actually more accurate !
If I had SatNav, how would it affect that ? Surely all the readings (speed, distance, eta) are a result of positional readings from the satellites, and not dependent on any crude measurement of speed/distance as is the case with the speedo.

I have noticed from using TrakM8 that my speedo is now amazingly accurate (I assumed from the 18" wheels) - I have to be careful now, as I am so used to 'allowing' for the usual speedo error in other cars which are often upto 10% out i.e. 70mph on the speedo might be as low as 63mph actual speed. I ran a test the other day and never went above 70mph on the speedo - my TrakM8 sent me a journey summary with a 69mph top speed.

I thought that the resolution of the GPS was coarse enough that the system supplements with distance travelled information from the DIS. Could be wrong though!

I only just realised recently that my speedo reads high: The local police revently set up a temporary speed sign and when I went past it showed about 27mph when I thought I was doing 30mph.

And yes, I've now got into the bad habit of going a few mph faster as a result!

Funnily enough, it was fitted yesterday. Boy does it make a difference. Roll and dive has been drastically reduced, and it no longer looks like I'm going off-roading I'll post some before/after picutres later.
I was worried that I was going to end up with some rubbing, but now it is lower the wheels are clearly *just* inside the arches, and it actually looks perfect, IMHO. They have dropped it by about 20mm, but I was thinking maybe another 5mm wouldn't hurt, so I'll try it at the weekend
Good thing was, that Kim Collins took it for a test drive, and reported that the turbo noise I had is normal and nothing to worry about
