The quickest way to get to your turbos ?

Our friend Keyser has found a novel way of getting to his turbos, DP's etc.. and is quoting half an hour [img]images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] to drop the engine - more details please Keyser - it has been reported that some dealers are quoting 40hrs to swap turbos - ouch !

I've only just had a chance to look at this and am quite impressed. Clearly changing the turbos does not have to be as expensive as it needs to be. If I ever have mine done I will want to discuss this. Trouble is most outfits will be against doing it this way since they make a lot of their money from labour!

I am positive in the vast majority of cases a lot of the established times and practices on our cars are a direct result of the procedure stated in the workshop manuals.
From my own personal experience of replacing the suspension I know for a fact that you can replace the front suspension without removing the bolt that pinches the two upper arm wishbones. If that bolt is seized your talking major grief if you destroy it. So an alternative course of action is always handy to know. The manual doesn't provide alternative procedures. They only know new vehicles.
Jim is constantly increasing his experience on our babies.
He has see a dramatic increase in S4s coming his way. He reckons it's because they are coming out of Audi warranty. I'm sure the recent Audi driver article on him is also helping.
I know he's done the down pipe replacement without removing the engine. To quote, "I had to break Brian's arm (son)in three places to get done!" [img]images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]
He's recently done a couple of timing belts i.e. the whole front end off. His Audi hourly rate is around £35. I'm sure he said just the labour alone was £150 for the timing belt job! [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]
