Milltek

Post by SimonS4MTM » Mon Jul 14, 2003 2:26 pm

Does anyone here have a Milltek cat back exhaust.

I have a chipped S4. Will it offer more power and torque?

Does it sound any different to the standard exhaust?

Thanks

Don't expect any significant performance advantage - you need to replace the cats for that. It does sound louder and deeper, but from what I've heard it's the quietest of the aftermarket exhausts available for the S4.

The APR cat-back sounds positively viscious from outside the car (enough to make an old dear cower at the side of the road - sorry luv , didn't do it on purpose). Inside, with the windows up it's relatively quiet i.e. no boom. Not cheap, but it makes the right noises for me

I have an MTM 320bhp modded S4 Avant, chip + cat back Milltek. My mate has a 306bhp MTM S4, chip only.
Slight overall difference in pick up etc. Lovely noise from inside the car under acceleration - no noise at cruising speed - and surprisingly no noticeable noise from outside the car - boost + engine kills exhaust noise.
Its very well made and looks very well indeed - hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys.

So in summary, the exhaust will not offer any noticable power gains. The Milltek will not offer any noticable audible benefits. Is there any reason for fitting one?

If i want an APR exhaust, were can i get one, Fontain no longer do them.

Are there any others that offer audible benefits?

Thanks

No Mate,

The Milltek does sound a lot better than stock!

Come to a meet, lots of people have them, and the difference is quite noticable, and IMO much better than the Audi exhaust, but without being too loud.

Simon, try Jim at Star Performance. I will probably be going to Windsor too.

Actually, i may not be able to make that one, Windsor is about 140 miles away. It might prove difficult to get there for 7pm

I don't believe a Millteck CAT back offers any significant power increase based on their negative response to my challenge to supply an exhaust for my chipped S4.

I basically said, I'd buy there CAT back exhaust if and only if, after a before and after dyno run I saw a 5 to 10bhp difference.

They declined despite a very positive initail conversation with their general manager.

Interesting point to note on the bhp reported by rolling roads. My car initially chipped by AMD at 323bhp and 377ftlbs back in November. On sat I had it dynoed by Jim at Star Performance now showing 302bhp and 384ftlbs.

Very warm day on Sat 22Deg C. We were just checking the DVs etc. Jim didn't do a temp compensation but he said I'd maybe see a slight improvement in BHP with a Millteck but nothing significant.

I'd rather spend the money on a center boost gauge and Dolly Parton's greatest hits

I'm sure that there are a series of graphs on Audiworld along with a video / sound clip. From ( fading ! ) memory I'm sure that there was about 15 bhp improvement, but not sure if it was Millteck. I can't find it at the moment but will have a look tonight.

Jim is an honest man.

Back in my days training as an engineer, we were told to always put a tolerance on any measurement stated. Often there was a tolerance given on the measuring equipment itself.

As a sort of example, when you read the time on an analogue clock which has no second hand, the best time you can read is +/- 1 minute.

Because of the way a RR measures, i.e. rollers against the wheels, I think the tolerance should be treated as fairly high, even as much as +/- 10%.

Maybe you can ask Jim if his RR has a specified tolerance.

Yes Dippy I completely aggree with you and I certainly don't get overly concened with variations in rollling road figures especially between different rolling roads.

Next time I'm talking to him I'll enquire about the rolling road figures. It should be possible to get the stats on the rolling road direct from the manufacturers web site. I've certainly seen loads of data for others. I think the make of the rolling road is Maha?? I'll check.

PS I too had my DVs fitted by AMD but by the time I came round to getting the work done. AMD had changed over to Hyperboost believing the heat sink fins were a better idea.

Can't argue with that.

However, I've seen Forge's response to questions on their DV's on Audi-sport.net and they have been outstanding with respect to customer service

On that alone I wish I had the Forge DV's. It will be interesting to see if Hyperboost are as good.
