Fuel consumption...

Post by Carps » Mon May 19, 2003 8:05 pm

First of all, sorry for harping on about fuel consumption, but I have come from a Golf GT TDI which returned about 48MPG average, so you can imagine the shock moving to a petrol twin turbo...

Anyhow, on my way to work this morning (Caterham to Surbiton) I managed 37.2 MPG ! This was early with little traffic, but I was amazed nonetheless. The return journey was normal going home time, and the average only dropped off to 30.5. I even had a few little 'blasts' on the way home. I am starting to really love this car - blistering performance and 'ok' fuel consumption when driven conservatively

Carps,

After a few more blasts, your MPG will come down dramatically. However, if you intend to drive it conservatively, then why get the S4?.

I'm averaging 18.3 MPG, as the S4 is just too tempting to drive slowly.

All the best with the new car

TurkS4,

I just need to know I *can* get the fuel consumption if I want too. I'll get it out of my system soon - like I said, I come from 48MPG.

As for why did I buy one - always wanted an RS4, but way to expensive. S4 is a compromise, but not too much. The Audi S/RS cars are undeniably the best on the road, IMO. Except maybe the Porsche 993.

Cheers

I'd like to drive my car to it's full potential, but the 100 cars & trucks in front of me just get in the damn way!

Anything over 30 is erm amazing.

I hope you enjoy the power though, sod the economy.

I get 22-27, seen 30 once coming up the motorway when tired.

Reckon Bushy's been signed up to "Fast and the Curious 3" - he defies the laws of obtainable mpg

My average is around 21mpg on the DIS, but how accurate is that? The last 80 DIS miles go in 20 driving miles - it's all a load of bollocks as I can't be arsed to fill up and do the maths

Driving from Sutton, Surrey down to Brighton gives me around 28mpg on a smooth run, but if I gun it...around 20-22mpg. But then I didnt buy the car for fuel economy, ....I could'nt afford an RS4!!!

Can't get mine to do over 19mpg on the DIS. Well, I 'could' but I'd have to drive soooooo slooooowly. The S2 has crap fuel econ when on full boost...my worst average was 8 mpg on a whole tankful (calculated NOT DIS!) and that was trying to follow you Steve!

Lee

PS Steve, it was a complment . These cars should be DRIVEN
