HELP!

Post by simonm » Mon May 19, 2003 2:18 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and have been recommended to the site, so don't let me down

I am looking at an S4 for my wife - probably a 1999 Avant and will more than likely buy it from an Audi dealer (so it will come with 1-year warranty).

Can you offer any advice on what to look for? Good places to look other than Audi and anything else I should consider when looking at an S4?

Thanks in advance

Hi there Simon and welcome to RS246.com

Firstly buying from a Audi dealer does give you the peace of mind with the warranty etc but also it maybe worth getting AA or RAC to conduct an additionl inspection, but thats just my opinion as i dont really trust dealers too much.

The S4 is one nice car, make sure the basic`s have been checked by yourself if you opt not to have a inspection done... i.e. tyres, oil, electrics etc, lights etc.

Parts and labour can be very expensive but your warranty should cover most of the car except the wear and tear items like, pads, disc`, brakes, exhaust, suspension, clutch and gearbox...... the most expendise items would be turbo`s, clutches etc.

Just keep a open minds and check out verious samples, if going for leather be aware that some 1999 models will have very badly worn seats if its had a big previous owner. i`d personally go for noggy blue with blue alacantara / leather seats.....

Oh btw im not a S4 owner so im sure the S4 owners will post if i`ve missed anythings.

Once again welcome and feel free to ask any questions!

Riz,

A question about the chrome mirrors in your picture. They appear to be the pre 99.5 shape. Do you know if they are they also available in the 99.5 on shape ?

Cheers

Even i didnt know that? i think the US were one of the last places to get the S4`s? not sure though..... im sure you should be able to retro-fit them but the costs are high sometimes!

I have been quoted about £500 for a pair of the chrome mirrors. I think they look great, but am not too sure if it really needs the chrome rails too. That adds more cost, but worse it necesitates the dropping of the headliner
I think I'll check with VAGParts tomorrow regarding the mirror shapes

I have been quoted about £500 for a pair of the chrome mirrors.

I was originally quoted £700 about 18 months ago. £500 is still too much though.

£700 gets you the rails too. However, I think Her Majesty wants her cut, so I guess £820 is more realistic
Is there a second hand market for black rails ?
