Front LSD

Post by SilverS4 » Sun May 28, 2017 9:01 pm

I'm having trouble with a front LSD.
The rear one went in ok, a Gripper plate and clutch.
Works lovely.
The front, I planned on fitting a quaife. Purchased it, took took it all apart to find out the front diff has an oil pump drive gear fitted and the quaife wasn't designed to take it.
No hole for the stopper pin and the bearing seat machines the thickness of the gear to short.
After speaking to quaife they advised me to talk to TSR in Bridgwater. I ended up with my money back and no upgrade to the front diff.
I know that gripper will make me a front that will fit. But that's a plate and clutch and I was advised to use an ATB style up front.
Maybe the advice is wrong for a quattro.
Does anyone have any advice or knowledge on this.
The good tech in my local Audi said something about an electric unit to drive the pump instead of the diff driven mechanical setup. He said that from memory there is a location and 3 holes in there to fit it.
Then advised me to ask on here.

Going from open diffs to LSDs on a quattro is pretty serious, what are you using this for, what's the rest of the build like?
I think jockthelad has run an LSD up front on a B5. Ask him.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Is it a track car?
Email these guys info@akmotorsport.net and ask about their front Torsen differential from Porsche, matched to fit 01E, these will go on with oil cooling or without. Last time I asked these cost about 500 notes so probably more now.

I think it's jockthedog not jockthelad on here that has one fitted.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Bam your reference to "dog" and "lad" in the same sentence worries me.
