too small tank, (problem in the most rs's and s's)
too high consumption, (13,4)
too less room for load, (for an estate car)

Mostly same criticism that old S4 got. However I can't agree with comfort remark unless it relates to rear leg room.

Interesting about consumption. What units is that 13.4?
Certainly the advantage of the old S4 is that when it's driven calmly, it's a 2.7 litre engine, but when driven hard it acts like a 5 litre engine. Whereas the new S4 is 4.2 litres all the time - thirsty!

That would be in litres per 100km. It's eurospeak so I have no idea what it is in mpg, but not a lot basically! The rear legroom has always been an issue in the A4/S4/RS4, but it's actually better in the new shape car, but they'll not be happy in anything less than a long wheelbase A8!

As for the consumption of the 4.2, it's not as bad as you might think. It's very smooth and torquey, so you don't have your foot down as much as you would in a smaller engined car, and when it's cruising down the motorway it's barely working at all. I know it's only the 300hp version of the same engine, but my father had a 4.2 litre A8 a couple of years ago, and on a run, no matter how heavily loaded you were, it'd get certainly 28mpg, and when we went to Dover it managed 32! This engine is the harder tuned 340hp version though, so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. Still, the combined average was supposedly 21.2mpg or so, but we always got about 24-25 out of it. It really does depend how much traffic you sit in though, as that's when a big engine really makes that difference, as now it has to feed 8 cylinders with idling fuel all the time, not just 6.

Correct me if I am wrong, I worked out:

13.4 lt/100km ~ 17mpg

Bit harsh, I'm getting 21-22 mpg.

Just from thinking about other comparable cars and what I've read their values to be, that sounds about right. Still, that's bloody low! It can't be that bad can it? I'd have thought it would be put down as at least 19mpg. Mind you, the way they work it out is total crap isn't it!

17 mpg is a reasonable figure [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] You dont get performance from a weighty motor if you cant burn plenty of petrol....

Must be something right with the new S4 then!

I get between 23mpg - 28mpg average driving

Its heavier too...

S4 = 1660kg
S4 Avant = 1720kg
