RS4 suspension now fitted .... [more]

Post by Nige_RS4 » Wed Apr 16, 2003 1:38 pm

Finally got my local VW/Audi specialist to fit it, and what a difference <<< need the shades due to the sun today ! Anyway, back to my S4 - maybe it was the fact that my orig suspension had done 85k and was fecked, but the 'new' stuff is soooo much of an improvement, less diving under braking, more flat thru the corners, better control over speed bumps and finally, lowered by a massive 10mm.

Chuffed !

Rob K, thanks !

Fitting was a doddle (for my garage anyway) - no problems encountered, so it confirms Keysers comments that RS4 stuff does fit - hence the GmbH stuff will fit. The extra 5mm drop on the GmbH kit will still be OK for the S4 - will try and post some pics tonight so you can see the size of the gap front and rear.

Jeff, have a word with your friendly moderator johneroberts and cross his hand with silver (don't let him con you into handing over any magnesium, as he probably wants some for a set of alloys!)

Nige,

Now that you have RS4 suspension, are you going to fit some soft wheels too?

I thought a number of the RS4 owners weren't very happy with stock RS4 suspension and opted for the uprated Audi kit?
Assuming there is not much difference in the cost between the stock RS4 suspension and say H&R or other simlar. Is it worth fitting RS4 suspension?

Couple of reasons for my choice - can't afford new stuff at the mo(£600+VAT min) and needed to replace my worn out std shocks/springs (85k miles) + wanted to stick with OEM for insurance reasons.

I have read recently that an uprated front anti-roll bar with reduce oversteer and minimise understeer - has anyone got any experiences of this - mfrs etc...

I've just bought used RS4 suspension of Kim Collins.

I had just bought the H&R from Scotts Motortune for £710 when they called me back to tell me that price excluded VAT. i.e. £835 So I held off buying since I thought I could get cheaper.

I called QST and spoke to Kim who said I'd have no problems the H&R given my concerns about it being to hard.

Kim was £835 for H&R but suggested he had a used set of RS4 suspension which had only covered 6-8K. He wanted £400 + VAT

It was only once I came off the phone that I thought to myself VAT on a used part that he has clearly got for nothing from a customer job and to make it even worse I then remembered one of you lads on this thread binning a set of RS4 suspension - Doah!

Anyway it's still not a lot of money for what it is and I know it's better than the stock S4 suspension which is knackered on mine cos I had a good spin in an RS last month and I've been really reluctant to spend £1K on suspension given that I'm trying to save for an RS4 for the end of the year.

Anyways the suspension arrived but I was out. I'll have to wait for another two weeks to even see the kit far less get it fitted as I'm offshore for the next couple of weeks.

Can't wait!
