Hi,

Sometimes my car will suddenly blast hot (or rather hotter) air out of the climate control for a few seconds.

Typically this will be a few seconds after a bit of full throttle after a period of steady speed crusing.

I assume that the engine is getting a bit hot and the electric fan has switched on blowing extra hot air onto the heater matrix.

The climate control then takes a few seconds to compensate for the extra heat.

Anyone else get this? Never had it on previous cars.

Maybe the aircon needs re-gassing?

Doesn't the compressor disconnect (via the electric clutch) when the engine is under load?

I assume this causes the effect you describe. (not noticed it myself though)

I'm sure you're right, but I don't think this would give a sudden blast of warmer air.

Actually I think the exact scenario might be:

Steady state cruising.
Full throttle blast for a few seconds.
Ease off throttle and resume cruising.
Few seconds later blast of warmer air from aircon for a short while.

Explanation could be:

Full throttle blast, turbos rapidly heat up cooled by increased air flow, as you slow down airflow reduces, so temperature increases and electric fan triggered to cool engine. Fan blows hot air onto the heater matrix, quick blast of hot air into the car before the climate control sorts things out.

Having a few things checked out at AMD on Wednesday. Will ask them.

I've not noticed this myself. But hell I'm from Abderdeen and I've seldom seen outside temps greater than 10degC. to get the car warm enough to activate the fan!
