Yes, water pump & aux belt are important if done 60k miles+

Whatever the service book says, I get mine serviced every 10,000 miles. Cost about £300 for routine stuff, obviously more for the big ones.

SO that cars next service should be around 90k if its a dealer, I would bargin that into the deal and get it done early 10k between oil changes is not great on powerful cars.

If the waterpump, tensioners and thermostat were not changed at the cambelt change you are basically looking at doing the whole cambelt job again. So the cambelt is normally bundled in with the 80k service which is around the £800 but cambelt change, with waterpump etc etc I think is about the £350-400 mark.

90k service would be considered a intermediate service by Audi/VW so thats about £250 IIRC

As people have mentioned watch these adverts from dealers that list everything as an extra, there was a fair bit of kit on a standard S4 so there are not to many extras.... worth haves IMO are Centre ArmRest, Sunroof, Recaro Leather Seats and Cruise (not sure if that was standard).

Food for Thought......

Ars4 - This might be useful for you regarding options on the S4: http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=48809

Everything else is standard :)

1, Aux belt not so important, but water pump failure can cause the cam belt to break or the engine to cook, i have heard aof a few Audi waterpumps go.

2, Depends what the last service was? if it was an 80k at 80k, then next one is at 90k and is an oil change.

Good luck in buying a car that you have not seen by the way. Make sure that you are under no obligation to purchase once you have seen it. I always say it is good to drive a few to compare before making your choice, there are a lot of bad ones out there.

If you can get your car to Dialynx, cambelt with pump is about £450 IIRC.

http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=51567 Look here for cambelt costs

Prices start from £140 for 10k service and £240 for 20k (+vat) My 80k service without cambelt and aux belt (already done) was £282.

Go on Dialynx website and download pricelist

Wifey is good!!! :D the car has also had the 90K service done early :)
Also, the car is 2 owners from new - one being VAG, the other being a businessman - only changing for a X5

Waiting to hear back from Graham with a couple of details - will keep you posted ;)

LOL!!! I'm shocked (in a nice way!) at the amount of valuable information out there!!

Someone should do a definitative FAQ, but then you wouldn't get threads like this!! :D

It's nice to get threads like this!!!!
IMO it makes the site more worthwhile, better than just having a list of do's and dont's.

OK - bit of an update for you. Can't/to prepared to go into details (read as potentially libellous), but the one S4 I've been looking at, I've walked away from.

However, I've found another (pretty similar car too ;)) and am pursuing it now - on the surface, it's looking VERY good indeed :)

Getting that Christmas Eve feeling again!!! :D
