David,

I agree. I know people that have gone from an S4 to and RS4 and have had to 'learn' to drive the RS4 because its power and torque delivery are so different.

On a point about depreciation, there is one way round it. Really look after the car and keep it for along time. Aren't the cleanest of S2's starting to appreciate in value yet?

No, just different, the S4 has mighty torque from low down but does not feel as strong over 6k rpm.

I prefer the former, I like country road driving and it the S4 suits this. I've debated this with many peeps and I know I'm in a minority though :)

So better for you then. The guy I bought mine off said his new RS4 was harder to drive fast but gave more when pushed

I moved on from a remapped S4 to a standard RS4, I was a little disappointed in the acceleration to begin with. The initial grunt on the RS4 wasn’t as great as the S4, the S4 also felt lighter as a car and happier to sprint of the mark. So after awhile of ownership I got the RS4 remapped and that changed the character of the car completely. I loved my s4 I really did....but you can’t beat the presence of the RS4 and the way it performs on the motorway is awesome.

Even though I'm looking to move on now to an RS6 I still think the B5 RS4 is an all time classic and even in its standard from will put a smile on your face if any of you decide to go the route of RS4 ownership.

Cheers

Tom
