OK, that's weird Julian mate, don't understand why, I think it can only be the springs, one is not up to the job, maybe weak?. They do sit on shaped rubber top mounts, so maybe one is sitting different.

But the way when you adjust the spring perch up and down it is supposed to be about 0.8 to 1 ratio of the car height change, so move the perch up 8mm, car should raise 10mm approx.

Guys, just to bring this thread back up a little... and give it a slight twist...

I bought some H&R coilovers recently for my Avant.

Now, I was going to get Raj Patel to fit them for me until my mate at work said "hold tight, if you wait till weekend I'll do it for you".

Now this dude says he's quite a handy man at most things like changing oil, brakes and most other minor parts on cars as he's done most of the work on his old Jaguar. But are coilovers something that can be fittted by someone who knows car but has never fitted coilovers before?
01 RS4, Milltek, Dahlback Racing rears, RS6 fronts and a few bits to be added.

Also, as I hate driving, my toy to play with - a Honda CBR F Sport

A: Anyone fancy letting me drive their "sorted" S4 to see how it handles a bumpy b-road?
[/quote]

Just seen this thread bit late but wondering if you ever got this sorted. I had some of these issues but went to 'Centre Gravity' and had the full works done.

My RS4 has fat H&R arbs, subframe brackets and PSS9s (standard wheels - eagle F1s) and did not feel right at all until I had it fully set up and corner weighted within an inch of its life at CG. The result is now down a bumpy and I mean bumpy b-road at 80mph you can take your hands completely off the wheel (no issues). At 150mph it feels like 90mph, and I never believed the B5 platform could handle so well at all speeds. This was even with front ARB now set to full stiff and PSS9s at 4 front and 5 rear.

I am going to do a full write up soon (warts and all and there aren't really any warts), but it will be the best £500 quid you will spend on handling.

Olly

p.s you probably have all of this sorted by now so apologies if sucking eggs etc.

I think you mean 8 quarter turns of the spring perch will raise or lower the ride height by 1mm.

I think he doesn't. Because the pivot point for the shockie is a few inches away from the wheel centre line, 10mm platform adjustment doesn't mean 10mm height adjustment, ie if you adjust the platform by 10mm the car will be raised more than 10mm..

Yep, it is because of the design of the suspension, taken from several write ups / manufacturers guides, the ratio of spring travel to wheel travel is roughly 0.8 front and rear.
