Well it looks as though this thread has moved on to wheels, despite me starting a new thread http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=53160

So how are the wheels Woody? You weighed them yet??

Harry - I assume the poor handling was due to the weight of those MTM bimotos...?

Weight?? :P - The ever so important question :o

Be interesting to see how well they balance once the tyres are on... and how they sit in the arches. Getting me very keen for a set!! :D

Weight of wheels on a car that ways as much as the S4?its surely going to be a drop in the ocean isnt it?? Very nice wheels woody. Have they got MTM stamps on any of the spokes?

The MTM bimoto wheels are considerably heavier than the OEM ones, and I'm reliably informed that as well as adding to the overall weight of the car, it does affect handling.

It doesnt look like it and I wouldn't expect them to as they're not MTM.

The weight of wheels is extremely important as it increases exponentially the faster they spin (rotational weight). Imagine holding a cat by it's tail and spinning it around you, the faster you go the heavier it seems. It's the same with wheels.

What Neil said &... how quickly your suspension (Springs & shocks) react to changes in road surface & affected as there is less weight to move & so also changes the way the car drives.

The MTM wheels are just stupidly heavy & would not interest me... these may well be under the 29lbs mark & make them very interesting...

Anyone know what the Standard B5 S4 alloys weigh?

Forgive my ignorance, I was of the understanding they were MTM replicas. When I bought AC schnitzer replicas for my 3 series a bit ago they had AC schnitzer on them, and I was just wondering how accurate a copy they were. Also didnt realise these were massively heavier then OEM, I thought we were talkin small amounts.I will shut up now.

The weight of wheels is important as affects unsprung weight which is important for handling http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsprung_weight

You couldnt get away with putting MTM logos on items not made by MTM for reasons of trademark infringement.

The weight of the genuine MTMs are surprisingly heavy 39Lbs for the 19s so id expect arount 32Lbs for the 18s.

Be interesting to find out how they compare in weight to OEM 18s (RS4/Rs6)
