Sell S4 and get RS4 or mod it to hell??
Cheers
cheers for all the info guys, everyones been a big help!
thanks for the offer andrew, will pm you when i decide what i am going to do!
yeah mark, sounds like you will have to do a widebody now that everyone here wants you to! if you do, and if i decide to then there will be 2 widebody s4/rs4 saloons on the roads of britain
i have to say i do love my silver s4 but was always contemplating a lovely black one when i bought mine but none were really available, and i haven't really seen any so was thinking if black was a rareish colour in both s4 and rs4? if i do a widebody conversion ( after all the engine work that is!), seeing as the only panels that would be original s4 would be the roof, boot, ad rer bumper would it be feasible to change the colour of the car as most of the car would be sprayed anyway? anyone done this? then again i do like silver, it shows the lines of the car very well, and i do think a silver widebody s4 saloon would look pretty spectacular, especially with a set of mtm bimotos (another big spend coming up......possibly)!
i see where you are coming from doug, if i get the rs4, it would be rude not to modify that as well, and that would cost a few thousand too! what sort of mods would be done to the rs4 anyway other than suspension, brakes, remap and exhaust?
hmmmm to do it or not to do it ............

insurance
oh yeah good point paulderdle wrote:There are days when I wonder whether I should have kept my S4 and just modded it to the hilt rather than buying my RS4.
If you heavily mod your S4, then remember some insurance companies may not touch you for such a heavily modded car (depending on age etc) and some others may only provide cover for the "basic" car underneath in the event of a loss.
We perhaps need ZeroK66 to pop in to give his own opinion since he has recently had his S4 treated to quite a few extra horses.

i am currntly with noel dazely who cover like for like, but i don't know how far they would actually take it concernig every bit that will need changing for a true rs4 saloon conversion?

RS4 500bhp?
hmmmmmm still thinking of going for a full rs4 conversion, or just upgrading to about 500bhp via mrc, but the question is how much would it take to mod a b5 rs4 to around 500bhp? and if you put a 500bhp s4 and a 500bhp rs4 next to each other what would the differences be driving wise?
to mod the rs4 from stock to 500bhp what would be needed? does the rs4 engine differ much to an s4 engine coz i thought they were the same?
i am still undecided which way to go as i do really like the rs4, and having an estate would be good, but i do love the look of the saloon - just don't think that the bodywork needed for the rs4 look conversion would be worth the cost and effort, and having the car off the road for so long.
also realise would have to change things like the suspension for the rs4 but would a new exhaust be needed? not quite sure what else would be needed as i think a remap goes upto 420bhp if i am not mistaken?

RE: RS4 500bhp?
S4's make power lower down that RS4's. Still want to see a S4 and RS4 together in a drag both with 500bhp.
MING BLUE AUDI S4
Car is on Lock down
506.9 BHP @ 6.020 RPM
445.0 WHP @ 5.981 RPM

I'm sure this could be arranged at RS246 Live!BRETTCOLLINS wrote:S4's make power lower down that RS4's. Still want to see a S4 and RS4 together in a drag both with 500bhp.

My thoughts...
£14k later I have 500BHP... had I not popped a turbo I would not have. For about £2-3k you could get that power out of an RS4 more reliably, wiht status and resale value. Modding an S4 is a waste. GO FOR AN RS4 - NO DOUBT THERE. I know what you mean about it not being a saloon... there are a million reasons PRO the RS4 route... not many negatives. A no brainer in my eyes.
Cheers,

Re: RE: RS4 500bhp?
I went against a Stage III MTM RS4 and between 2-6k we were pretty even, over 6k I pulled away steadily. Not sure what power he was running though!! I think they would be pretty easily matched.BRETTCOLLINS wrote:S4's make power lower down that RS4's. Still want to see a S4 and RS4 together in a drag both with 500bhp.
To get 500BHP from an S4 you need to drop compression with a high flow exhaust losing some of the torque... I think the difference is MINIMAL.

Sorry guys, I've got a chip in here in defense of the s4.
i hear the oft quoted 'you need lower compression ratio to make 500 bhp'.
Not so.
My car:
bosch fuel pump, 600 cc injectors, fmic, tubular manifolds, k04s, k&N cone, rs4 maf = 400 wheel bhp, 499.1 crank bhp and 520 ftlbs at the crank.
I'd happily have a pop at a 500 bhp rs4 since my car weighs less and 500 bhp rs4s don't make their torque as low down (ie mine's easier to muster off the line, best to date 3.72 seconds to 60 mph, 0 to 100 mph 8.60 and fats 3.02s)
And you're forgetting, when an rs4 takes out another car at the lights, it's supposed to happen. When an s4 takes out a bike off the line it's flabergasting...
No question, I could have a rs4 sat outside, but I choose something i) more surprising, ii) something I am not obsessively precious about, iii) something I can drive anonymously without attracting subarus (if I want), iv) I can park in a car park without someone keying it.

S4 - no longer missing 1 engine. Last seen leaving trailing black lines of gearbox oil.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Sell S4 and get RS4 or mod it to hell??
Ash, as some guys have already said, you should go with your heart... but let's face it, If you decide to heavily mod the S it'll probably end up costing you almost the price of an RS, so if you can afford it get the RS! You'll lose so much money if you don't. I'm just waiting for my contract to be renewed at work then I'm on the look out for one!
