My worry with this route would be how fast I could get my hands on the turbo if and when the time comes. Turbo's don't tend to give a month or so's warning before letting you down big time

You'll look in your rear-view mirror one day to see large amounts of smoke behind you....which mean's that either

a, the wife filled the car with diesel or
b, your K03s are toast.

I rang 6 places across the country (Ireland), I could have got it from EUR600 to EUR1100 and the EUR1100 was the "we arent that interested, but if you pay us extra" we will do it price. I told them what it involved, approx time taken (6-12hrs is frequently quoted on AW etc) and told them I was suppling new Turbos and stock (used) manifolds. Some of the (Audi Garages and the specialist) have preset labour costs for this exact job (as its a standardised VAG procedure), in those cases I was openly recommending they quote higher rates than the paper value!
Totally agree with you. As I said on another thread, most places in UK mainland
have us over a barrel charging a minimum of 16-20 hours labour for a straight
turbo swap. The consensus is that if you have done this before then it doesn't
take more than 12. Someone posted on here that they had done it themselves
on jackstands in ~12!!!. I wish we could get your rates for the job, I really do.

Pretty much £1k plus shipping.
Thats the guy on eBay, been selling such parts for few months, but I didnt personally use him (he was my plan B).
$2.2K will work out about £1150 plus then with import duty that will be upto ~£1.4K. Not a bad price

when people quote £3K+ most are doing the full package:-

New turbos
inlet pipes
oil feeds
injectors
fuel pump
remap

and of course... labour
Keep an eye on ebay. Brand new usually go for ~1700 euros (although I
saw some recently go for 800GBP). I got mine used with manifolds, oil
and water lines for 690GBP. It's going to cost ~400GBP to have them rebuilt
though. I prefer buying from Germany as you don't have to play the VAT
and Duty lottery.

My warranty covers me for upto £1k of any mechanical damage - including the turbos and it costs me £200 per year. It also allows me to have after market items fitted :)
Who is that with? I would be AMAZED if they are covering you knowing you have
had a remap.

Drive over here then! Ferry would cost you about £280 there and back.
Though the whole "mainland" talk could (would) be taken rather poorly..

Sorry, I didn't mean to cause offense. Just my piss poor attempt at physical

my car came from ireland and was looked after by a dealer in dublin..it was then sold and registered here in 2003..would be nice to take her back and show her off..my step bro lives in dublin so i could combine a family run with a group buy turbo run..

I can't remember the name of top of head - but will look it up for you tonight. Only problem is that it's some kinda specialist company the bloke I bought car off was with. At first they wouldn't allow me to carry over the insurance as it was supposed to be a "1 off deal". But after a bit of sweet talking... and beggin and pleadin they agreed to it as I had the original policy book :D

Only catch is that the car has to be serviced by an "Audi specialist". I double checked if this meant ONLY Audi stealers - but it seems that any specialist is cool, so I'm hoping they'll allow me to get all work done at MRC :D

Remember the labour is cheap here (seemingly, lets see how my car pans out), but buying them certainly isnt!

Heh, no more factually incorrect than the way most Irish people refer to all of GB as "England"!

Forgive my stupidity - but I really have tried to keep track on upgrading turbo prices over in Ireland.

I'm guessing, exluding the price of the K04's themselves, the labour cost would be approx £600. Is that correct? And then, if you want to do the inlet pipes, injectors, fuel pumps etc the labor would increase?
