well. i bought my S4 from Nige earlier this year. i wanted one with a known history and a list of mods (so i wouldnt have to do them). my plan was to keep it for 3-4 years, as i love the Q car effect as most just think its an old man audi estate, until they see it disappear. i wanted better brakes, so went for the porsche ECS set up, but had to get 18 inch wheels as well, so as the brakes would fit so bought some OZ superleggara's then had the MRC treatment done and now i love the car.

however, personal circumstances have changed and i'll be doing alot more miles in 2007, so really need to run a diesel, and cant afford both, so i'll be actually MAKING an effort to sell the S4 in the new year, rather than just telling the odd person its for sale (as i'm trying to keep hold of it for as long as possible ) :)

as and when circumstances change back, i'll gladly get another one. previous cars have been A6 TDI quattro sport avant and a 3.2 v6 TT prior to the S4.

my previous car is a merc same as graham, but a 190 cosworth, it is so good fun!!! i still have it !! :o) before i got the s4 i was looking c32 and c36, but the tuneability and auto box just made it a no-no, but the s4 is just a complete different beast, once i got the gutted dp, full system and remap i was happy for a bit, im defo keeping mine, and going the k04 upgrade route when funds permit, looked at the rs4 route but i want a saloon. For now this is the best car ive ever had.

I originally bought my s4 with the intention of up-grading to an rs4 when my budget (and wife!) allowed, yet the more i spend on it the more i love the subtleness of the s4 as opposed to the outright aggression of the rs4. I plan to upgrade to ko4s when the 3s let go and aim to get to around 450bhp. 8)
Unfortunately i'm doing about 28k miles a year, so its racking up more miles than i thought it would and longevity seems my latest worry. I've still got about 3 years left of paying the loan off and just clocked 100k so fingers crossed it'll hold out! Would love to eventually keep it in the garage for weekend spins and tuning projects once it's paid for.
Mechancally it's been fine, although i've had my fair share of bad luck with the car  :side swipe by a skip wagon (off the road 13 weeks and £9k insurance damage); failed idler pulley tensioner causing the cams to seize 2 days after cam belt change (Audi replaced both cylinder heads under warranty at £? and off the road 5 weeks); hit a deer 2 weeks ago (still off the road and £3.5k insurance claim). Lost most of my no-claims now so might have to sell it anyway when i get my next insurance quote in!!
Anyway, i love the car, can't wait to get it back (before the xmas break PLEASE!), and fingers are crossed for a trouble-free-motoring 2007.
Adam.

Had mine 5.5 years and intend keeping it for the foreseeable future. I have yet to upgrade the turbos, so it will be better for me to spend 4-5K on that rather than spend the same trading in for a different car and ending up with less!

Mines a keeper for at least a couple of years but will probably keep it for longer and spend money on it.
Would be nice to drive it though - currently has broken gearbox.

They sure have! On reflection though it's probably more like just over £4K on mods - the other £1K was on essential things like water pump/timing belts, filter changes, oil changes etc ... but as you say: soon adds up ...
