my car is almost a twin of tartan robs and yes it cost a bloody fortune to do, but it could be done in stages. i could'nt afford a rs4 at the time although i would have loved one but i've enjoyed sourcing bits and the buzz as each bit improves the whole. i also know i will never see the money back but have decided to keep the car for a few years yet. then theres the grin factor when 470 horses kick you in the a**e. would i do it again? you bet.
i'm already in talks to get it up to 550 and lets face it what else can you buy with those horses and how much would it cost you!!!

He'd be better off returning it to stock and selling all the mods off separately if not - has got to be worth more than that as a stock car?

Club together and go halves on it with someone else. I'm sure two B5 owners could share the mods out between them to over the value of the purchase and then you have a spares donor car, a car to part and some scrap metal to sell!

There is a good modify / don't modify debate in this thread.
Horses for courses I suppose, I've had my S4 for 5 years+ now and I nearly swapped it for an RS4 July 2002 but did not like the power delivery, or the avant'ness of it all
There is an argument for mods vs depreciation, especially when you can take some of them off to sell the car.
It also makes a big difference if you plan to sell the car after a certain time, I decided long ago to keep mine for the duration, which helps hugely with perceived 'payback' on mods.
Like Clive, I have really enjoyed the journey and my car is nothing like the standard item now, as passengers at Audi Driver will be able to see and compare.
Keep debating

As a follow up to the debate, you should try running a rally car - that's never worth the value of the parts poored into it!
If the value of the modded parts are thought of as an experience (i.e. you pay money for a mod that makes the car feel better to you) rather than monetary value, I think modding a car is pretty good value - but then that's the experience I like.
Alternatively I could have spent the money on a decent 2 week holiday. I'm not looking to get any money back on that but have the experience of travelling somewhere.
Does that make any sense to any one?!!
