certainly walk away at that price. i've just bought an S4 avant, and i wanted to buy from someone who had cherished and looked after the car, which is why i bought one from a member on this site.
i placed a wanted ad in the classified section, as i wasnt in a hurry to buy and often people can be unsure if they want so sell, or are looking for a likeminded person to sell their car to, so i waited for the right car to come along, and now i'm the proud owner of a noggy blue avant.
best advise is to wait for the right car to come along at the right price and dont jump in too quickly, unless the car is exactly what you want.......
About to buy S4

yep i walked away. too many alarm bells going off for me too.
Must be learning as i could identify it as pre facelift, it had the split lights, the upright switches on the dash, as opposed to the sideways style, and it must have had the washers in the bonnet, i didn't notice them though, i was distracted!!!
Anyway i'm going to concentrate more on selling my scoob for as much as i can get
keep saving and looking for a facelift model.
Think if i had another grand and a half then my options would easily double.

Think you did the right thing there mate.
Though gotta say that differences between facelift / pre facelift are negligible. Has been discussed in other threads so wont touch on it here but dont dismiss a pre- facelift for that fact only. A good low mileage , high spec pre will tick all the boxes if ats the right price.

I would agree to a point, however I was under the impression that there were some revisions to the turbo oil feeds and manifold heat shields on facelift cars - that alone could be worth £3K saved in potential problems.Though gotta say that differences between facelift / pre facelift are negligible. and indeed the manifolds themselves, i believe F/L cars have RS4 type manifolds that don't seperate like the earlier onesthere were some revisions to the turbo oil feeds and manifold heat shields on facelift cars
