From my own exhaustive research on a private test track using very expensive proprietary testing equipment, these are the results.

Goodyear f1 DS3 75.276%

michelin Ps2 72.628%

Curious how they differ from the results posted above :)

tyres

Post by jacko788 » Sun Mar 05, 2006 11:34 pm

there can no comparative test for tyres bcos no 2 drivers r the same,we all need tyres for different types of driving,if u track ur car then u need x type tyres if u dont u need y type tyres if u drive steady on the road its just opposite to thrashing ur s4 so u will need different tyres, buy tyres for what u need them for i know people like an all round tyre but do they exist for all applications

Recently switched to pirelli nero 245/45/17 XL (thats the important bit) on RS2. Very impressed with all round performance. XL refers to sidewall strength which works well with the heavier avant. My guess is they would be a good choice for S4 avant drivers here.
I have had SO3 and contis before but these are excellent

Looking at either Toyos or GSD3s (had both sets on my Scooby) - any recommendations where I can get 2 cheap? Only need them delivered, as I have a fitting and balancing section at the college where I work ;)

Any suggestions?

Dan :)

I can get GSD3s for around £85 for the standard audi alloy. Can also get Verdestein for £62.50 for 17". thought that was quite reasonable?

Thanks for the info - only need supply. Also looked at mytyres, but was wondering if there was anybody out there "in the know" ;)

Which model is the Verdestein? seems very cheap (too good to be true?)

F1's every time... last 3 set of tyres have been these on various cars - last being an A4 2.8q.

The F1's may not be the best in the dry, but certainly rank up there in the wet - if not the best - all round is a great tyre. Many reviews I have read seem to suggest the F1 is the best wet and certainly a great all rounder. Seems many here are choosing this tyre too.

Where is the best place to get a set of these in 18 & what sort of price would I pay?

an interesting read this, am just about to get some new rims fo rmy standard S4 as the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's are approaching they're legal limit, and have been contemplating which shoes to get on the new 18" rims.

My old 2.8Q avant had Avon ZZ3's on its 18" RS4 reps... they seemed pretty good, coped well enough with a few laps round the 'Ring too. Dont really like the Pirelli's i have at the mo, had been thinking about Michellins Pilot's but they are hellishly pricey, so was thinking either Dunlops (as thats what i've seen on a lot of stock Audi's, including the original rims on my 2.8Q) or Goodyear's if i can find them at a reasonable price.

Having read this, it looks like the GSD3's are a popular choice, and 85 notes isn't too bad, although having just checked mytyres.co.uk that's the 17" price, its jumps to 102 for an 18" tyre. hmmm decisions decisions.

think its the ultrac. I used them on my pulsar and for the cost they are a very good tyre. Ive just got through a set of GSD3s and being honest was a bit underwhelmed with them.also had a set of pirelli assemitricos and they werent to hot. Next stop will be bridgestones re050/re040 i think once ive finished with my current tyres.
