However harsh it might sound I would probable agree with AmD. There is no telling without stripping the engine what has caused the failure of the piston. It could be a foreign object or wear and tear rather than what AmD have done. I would expect that in the event the cause of the failure is down to what AmD have done then they would pay for the whole repair.
The other question is .....who else would you take it to for the repair. If you take it anywhere else, AmD aren't going to pay anything towards it, as it is they may reduce the bill or pay a proportion.
This is, of course, IMHO.

Farsical, even main dealers wouldn't charge that. I'm guessing you can have an RS4 engine new/recon from Audi fitted for less.
I'd get someone else to remove the engine and get it stripped and inspected.
Small claims court limit is 5K.
IMO, since the car has done so few miles since AMD remap should be fairly open and shut case.

Early S4's use a different O2 system with only two sensors later S4s and RS4s use 4 sensors think that is the only difference. Try MRC re electronics (he has done a couple) and Dialynx for the engine swap, they have done it. Should be a straight swap mechanically would be best to use RS4 engine mounts £200 extra.

I'm not sure how much of the RS4 inlet stuff fits the S4 engine, perhaps all as it works the other way around ! Otherwise you'd need the RS4 airbox, maf, y-pipe, inlet manifold, fuel rail etc, plus the bigger pipes (the four flexis plus all the metal ones) I guess. Would need an oil cooler as well.
RS4 engine with all the bits + what you already have = a pretty reliable 450bhp, plus if you use the S4 heads, monster (RS4 eating) torque as well

I'd swap the current S4 stuff onto the RS4, however if funds permit then...you oil cooler, airbox, Maf, fuel rail, inlet manifold, y pipe and throttle body would complete the RS4 set. You should have the majority of the pipes already fitted with RS4 turbos and I/Cs.
However thats the best part 2K+ new prices, possibly nearer 3K.

I missed that comment the first time. Are you telling us that your engine has been rebuilt? Before or after AmD did the modification work?BRETTCOLLINS wrote:This is the story so far:
Now AMD are want me to pay 18 hours labour to till me what happened to it.
they are saying that they didn't rebuild the engine so it is not down to them.
What do people think?

It's clear in your posts that you seek an amicable conclusion to this and I think if you take legal advice, you will be advised to find out to the satisfaction of both parties what has gone wrong and why and therefore who is responsible for it, if anyone.
I think there should be a written undertaking from AmD to pay in full for all work involved if the strip down shows them to be at fault.
The fair way to ensure both you and AmD are comfortable with this arrangement is to use an independant expert.
Best of luck.
