Another one as well :)

Back to what Rob was saying about the idle speed at cold start up, i've noticed a couple of times now that on a cold morning the car would only idle at 1000 rpm and some times 1200 rpm.

Why do you think the ECU required to be replaced? There is nothing to support that at all. It would seem from the symptoms and DTCs that an EGT is required and little else.

Very unlikely both sensors have gone, Look at wiring diagram for common live and earth to sensors and ccs.
These sensors are used to tell ecu when enrichment is required to cool the combustion.
MVB shows both at 950 deg C until car is booted at full throttle for more than 5 secs, you will see temps rise upto 1300 odd deg C and the % enrichment taking place.
I have a spare sensor which is brand new if you want to buy it.
They are sided and this is for bank 1.

Thanks for the offer Morpheous but they have replaced both sensors and the attached black boxes, they gave me the old ones back as they said they were out of spec.

I now have other issues with the garage as since i have got the car back after last thursday, oil has leaked onto my driveway and last night i found that there was a 1/2 cm semi circular in dent crack on the oil sump yet there was no damage or scuff marks on the black belly pan!
the only thing i can think of is that the car has been lowered onto something.

Question for Tartan_Rob and DavidR,

I just collected my car from my authorized audi dealer for a routine oil change & inspection & he mentioned that during the diagnostic test (VAG), one of my EGT sensor showed a fault. He reset the codes & cleared the fault, test drove the car & the fault didn't show up again. He said it was nothing to worry about. I don't know what exactly is the fault description.

I've been driving my car for the last 2 days after picking up from the workshop and everything seems OK. Power delivery seems normal.

Is there anything I should look out for with a faulty EGT sensor??
How will I know if my EGT sensor is faulty without doing a diagnostic test?

Thanks

You won't know unless it is serious enough to light the 'engine check light'. You could buy VAG-COM or VAG-CHECK and read the error codes yourself. If your car is under warranty, don't let the dealer fob you off with "oh, I've just cleared the code and it will be ok! Trust me, I'm an ex-car salesman".

I had no noticeable symptoms with the faulty EGT. The dealer told me they had replaced one following a service.

My car is no longer under warranty, I spoke to my guy at audi again and he said I should drive it for a couple of days and bring it back to plug in to see if the EGT fault shows up again. If it does, I will likely replace the sensor but unfortunately, where I live, S4s are rare and they don't have this part in stock, therefore I will have place an order. It will take a couple of days for the part to get here.

Can I assume that if the fault doesn't show up, everything is OK?

I just took my car out hard run and I don't know if it's pyschological or what but it seems to lack punch ..... ...... or could be that I used to the speed.... Problem is that I don't have a boost gauge.
