If you use a good quality synthetic oil, warm up and down properly and change the oil regularly (i.e. none of
that Longlife <beep>) then they should last virtually forever.

Nearly 135K and still going strong, looks to have done mainly motorway miles judging by its condition.
Dealer serviced most of its life too though it's now fettled by MRC :rocker:

105000 miles with no problems. No smoking. No oil burn.

So, looking at the results so far it would appear that KO3s failing is over hyped - most of us have over 100000 miles with no problems.

that is what i was interested to see.
done 70k now and have felt nervous since a total loss of boost a few weeks ago....
checked it on me vagcom......turned out to be implausable signal from throttle pedal.....its not returned since.

I too was misled by the doom-mongers, mechanical sympathy obviously plays a large part on turbo longevity.

Yesterday whilst doing a few FATS runs at MRC we heard a feint metallic noise which sounded much like turbo wear, turned out to be a combination of missing O-ring on the MAF and a loose heat shield. Once these issues were put right it was fine again.
