I'd imagine he has hit a kerb with the wheel on full (or almost full) lock meaning the wheel has hit the kerb at right angles. The wheel has tried to bend underneath the car and the hub carrier has snaped there as it is the weakest point. I have heard of hub carriers bending before so I am not sure they are that strong. Don't forget it is hollow at that point and all the suspension arms are solid.
Unlikely the bodyshell is actually bent if the damage has occured as I described above but the subframe could have taken some of the force. If the damage occured with the wheel still being straight I would be more weary as there is no movement in the suspension that way i.e. front to back.
I only thought of it as worth while because I have that hub and the front subframe spare. Would definately fit all new front suspension arms for piece of mind.
However, I think £4500 is too much. Car is worth possibly £8500 (dependant on history)when complete and there is still the front headlight washers to sort, tailgate, possible other scratches etc.
