RS4 Exhaust on S4..what is involved? How much better sound?
Thanks. I suspect small diameter pipes, even the same size as stock S4 will look daft as the RS4 outlets are wider apart to accomodate the large oval trims.
Think I need one more quote for say some 2.75-3" tailpipes then I'll make a call.
Sourcing something like the picture in the right diameter should be easy and the welding not an issue so long as they just need to align straight on, no angles required to bring the trims up into the cut out. I am hoping the box can adjust up and so the tailpipes stay at the level they were before.

What are you trying to gain from using the rs4 exhaust? Wouldnt you be better off buying either AWE, ASP, Milltek, or MRC exhaust?? They all sound nice bolt right up with no problem and look awesome.

I fear they would all be too loud for my taste and too much for my wallet.2001S4ICS wrote:What are you trying to gain from using the rs4 exhaust? Wouldnt you be better off buying either AWE, ASP, Milltek, or MRC exhaust?? They all sound nice bolt right up with no problem and look awesome.
What I am trying to achieve is the ultimate goal of minimal loss of refinement for the best performance increase on a sensible budget (and keeping it legal - ie cats).
Slightly louder is acceptable, slighyly deeper is ok, but loud, droning or boomy is not.
With a full RS4 exhaust I get 3" downpipes (with gutted precats), 200CPI (metallic I think) cats and bar one point of tapering a full 3" system with the refinement of stock Audi silencers.
Cost of parts wise, I should be able to get the full system for less than a typical catback. Given a catcback alone keeps the main restriction (the stock 400CPI cats) and gives more noise than it does performance, this is why I am looking at the RS4 custom fit plan.
I think we pretty much have a plan now, so I'll report back in a few weeks.

I reccommend spending a couple extra bucks, saving you the hassle of custom stuff and buying the miltek superdual system. Ive heard and seen this exhaust in person it is amazing. at idle/cruising its almost like stock and when you hammer it you definetly hear it but its not loud and doesnt drone. Also its a tru dual system which is allways good. The only reason i didnt go with this system was because i like loud and like to scare people lol.

If your suggestion wasn't in the region of £2K supplied I'd agree. That's more than I can justify on a exhaust to be honest with you, for the gain it brings.

UK. I haven't tried hunting down the best price, but a typical retail price for the downpipes and cats is about £1300 including tax I believe. The dual catback is just shy of £600 I think. Anyway, give or take one or two hundred, those figures are not far out I don't think.
