I'm no expert but are any of these aftermarket valves better than the standard bosch ones in terms of response etc?

Personally I had two reasons to change mine:
1. The Bosch valves have/had a reputation for failure.
2. In combination with the Tanoga SS it does help to get a nice low power loss acceleration through the gears.

I hear that there are some diaphram based uprated valves available from Forge, but haven't heard any reports from users yet.

Forge may tell you that the Red ones are too strong and they are for Scooby boost junkies, blah, blah, blah. They will try to give you the Blue ones, try and push for a set of Reds also. Apparently you can feel which spring is best.... Not sure I did!! Anyways another point to get to Red status may be to mention that you are running up to 1.8-2 bar .

Spoke to Forge this morning. They are sending me the Blue springs today. They advised that the reds would not fit my 0007 DV's! Which dump valves do you have Phil?

I agreed to give the blues a try as I am running the greens at the mo.

I'm running the RS4 DVs (FMCL007P). There are two versions of these though read this post.

Seems like black magic this DV stuff. I wonder if Forge would be willing to post some feedback on this forum?

So it appears that I am running the earlier version - the one without the seal around the casing thread.

I'll give the blue springs a go and then if the problem is not solved I'll call Forge again.

Good idea about getting Forge on the site - they really come over as knowing their stuff - and I love their customer service

You should ask them to send you the new type DVs, I hear they are doing free swapouts .

As you may be aware from previous posts, I seem to get through DV's at an alarming rate.
I am now on my 4th pair (1xstd, 2xstrat, 1x TDynamics), this is in only six months.
I am now sure that there maybe an underlying cause for the problems and have started looking at the hoses as a possible problem area.
The left hose (from the front) is formed into two right angles, depending on the valve used and the nipple fitted this can be deformed due to the tight space this DV sits in, I have replaced this pipe with a straight pipe bent through a single 90 degrees (using a right angle nipple), also the pipe that goes into the T piece is iMHO not up to the job.
When I removed mine it was very flexible ie sqaushy even though it looked ok from the exterior, I feel this could collapse under enough vacuum.
I have replaced this with a new thicker wall pipe, I am also looking at making up some pipes with metal tiube inserts to completly remove the possibility of this happenening.
Since replacing the pipes I seem to have had no further problems with the 'failed DV symptoms'.

This is interesting Prawn. Perhaps I have a problem with the hoses.

Where did you get the replacement hoses which connect the vacuum hose. Also do you use jubilee clips, crimps or cable ties to connect the tube to the DV vacuum nipple?

Also, where the two vaccuum hoses join there is a metal T piece - can anyone advise who would supply this T piece?

Think I'll upgrade this to see if I can alleviate the problem once and for all

I have used Feul injection hose from good old Halfords, the hose clips came with it. I have about a metre of the various ID hoses left so if you need some and are going to Castle I can give you some then.
I am looking at changing this for Silicon hose but have only got the smaller ID, ie T piece to DV size at present.
You should be able to get a T piece from Rally Designs, part number PE03 @ £1.00 each

I will order the T piece and get some hose from Halfords as you suggest (thanks for the kind offer though) as I'd like to get everything set up and tested before Castle Combe.

See you there

I've missed something here. Can someone please provide a summary of the situation. I.e. what is it about a new Forge valve, and what sort of springs can you get?

I was happy to replace the Bosch valves because the diaphrams tend to split, and this can lead to serious problems as the turbos struggle to reach the demanded boost. However I too feel that my Forge valves are slower to react, and I have had hesitation in the past. However if the springs are too strong then isn't there a risk of too much back-pressure on the turbos?

Right, I have made up the brass inserts for the larger diameter pipe to the T piece.
Certainly no problems with DV so far.
I have 3/4 of these spare if anyone wants one.
Next step is to replace the hoses from T to DV with copper
tube (secured with minimum rubber/silicon hose).

Fitted the new blue springs from Forge. Tested and the DV didn't hold the vaccuum despite fitting new rubber rings and piston about 6 weeks ago . Greased out the valves which rectified but for how long?

I've order two Bosch DV's from Martyn at VAG parts and then I'll send the Forge DV's back to Forge asking if they can check them again.

Need it all sorted before Castle Combe.
