Had a car in the other day for a service, noticed a oil leak from what looked to be the rear of the head on the left bank as you look at it. On closer inspection the solonoid had had been damaged bending the securing flange where the torx bolts pass though. Removed solonoid and replaced with a spare undamaged one, along with the O ring, sorted. Loads easier than the tensioner base gasket.

So on the O/S is this the part nearer the top of the cam cover or the bottom?
I am guessing it's the one with the electrical plug on it which is held in place with 2 or 3 T30 Torx bolts.

Phil, i've not had anything done yet. As i am not losing hardly any oil, i am due a service at 100k miles, i am currently on 96k. So i am going to try and hold out until then, and get everything done in one go.....Philws4 wrote:What was the outcome to this s4-99?s4-99 wrote:I suppose if the front end has to come off then it might well be worth changing the belts anyway, even though they were done 20k ago At least my belts wouldn't need changing until i get to around the 170k mark. I'm still hoping it's just the cover gaskets![]()
I'm going to get it booked in next week hopefully then we shall see.
Did you have to replace the tensioner gasket/half moon or was it just the cam cover gasket.
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!
My car is booked in on Monday for a service and to change the cam cover gaskets. The Audi specialist i always use has said that it could well be the tensioner gasket/half moon? Ok we will have to see but i did mention to him that the tensioner gasket/half moon can be changed without taking the front end off, as some of you have said. He said you need to take the front end off so you can use the locking tool to keep the timing in place or something like that. He did say he would be interested to see/hear how it is done without taking the front end off!!!
So does anyone have any info or pics on how you change the tensioner gasket/half moon, without the front end coming off. Could save me a few quid in labour if all is good
.
Thanks.
