Sounds good

To get 500 BHP you will definitely need the tubular manifolds or similar large ported ones like the MTM ones. Also you will definitely need the front mount.

500 is achieved on the plain polished and ported k04's by use of better timing.

I wouldnt definitely get the APR bipipe Zero, to avoid pipe problems. Also the RS4 Y pipe I think is bigger than the standard one as well as made of different material, which makes it more reliable. It would be a sensible option to get those done for reliability purposes, and not just thinking about performance.

The clutch is a good choice. Ive also heard good things about the MTM clutch an flywheel combo, which is single mass also, and is pretty much indestructable.

For about 9,000K you could get a zero mileage fresh complete RS4 engine. bottom block, heads, with all the trimings. All auxilary parts will have to be swapped over, and clutch manifolds extra. But youll have a fresh engine. Dropping compression and going for a set of RS6 turbos, you could be looking at around 600 hp. Similar to one that MRC have mapped before, but on a saloon.

All depends what you want to do with the car though.

I think the 450 mark is justified for value. A lot mroe has to be spent making the car reliable to get the extra 50 hp. The manifolds, compression dropping gaskets, etc etc.

I cant wait to see the outcome what ever you deicde to do.

Could you possible write up a list of all the mods youre planning and post it.

Many thnaks and good luck with your car. I may be heading up a similar route as you soon.

I think this is a hard choice. Spending all the cash will not add that much value to your car, just look at Tartan Robs car. Spending the 10k on an RS4 and then chipping it will give you around 450- 470ish with gutted pre-cats, de-cat and full exhaust and it will still be worth at least 10k more than the S4. :?

RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.

RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing

Quite right Paul... but as explained in my earlier post, my turbo has given up the ghost now so the bare minimum would cost me 4k (Wihtout the brakes and many other little bits I am having done).

At least I had a couple months warning and I do have an absolutely Immaculate low miler S4 with recaros sun roof bells & whistles which makes keeping this car easier. I would not have done this if I had a std S4 with higher mileage.

Saf I will post a list of what has been done when the conversion is completed and I have a result as things are likely to change over the coming weeks.

Its going to be an awesome bit of kit but i think youve really got to be dedicated to it. Spending the equivalent of the book value (pre- turbo failure) on tuning is a major commitment and you have to be sure your going to reap the benefits.

Id personally think twice before spending that sort of money -circumstances can change or boredom can set in. Then again im a tight git :biggrin3:

Hope all goes well with it and your up and running by December.

You can get a new K03 for £ 500, 2 for £ 1,000 or less and its £ 1000 all in to fit, so £ 2,000 (max) will get you back to where you were Leon.

Make sure you will get £ 10,000 of enjoyment out of a very highly modified car AND you can afford the odd gearbox, more tyres, pads discs, fuel, insurance, a few extra bits etc. etc. that comes with it.

What you invest you loose, just look at Mik and Tartan_Rob's sales, unless you put it back to standard and sell the parts here or somewhere similar.

You've said your car feels 'old', are you really going to keep it long enough to enjoy it ?

Just my 2p, nothing against MRC or anyone else in the trade. I've done a lot of the things on your list (some 3+ years ago) and don't regret it because I 'use' the car well and don't plan to sell it.

 Jeez - i hope mine don't go pop then - I've just had to sell my bike to get the funds together to buy some decent brakes so that my car can stop properly....!

scoobydood wrote:My question then is concerning your choice of K04s instead of bigger RS6 ones. With this kind of power are you pushing the K04s to the limit with the potential of early failure and ANOTHER big bill soon? I think Mik went through two sets of K04s so they are obviously not that great. Yes he had a problem with his car but he was pushing nowhere near 500bhp.
To further answer this one... I dont think the turbos will be stressed. The car will run approx 1.5bar of boost which shouldnt stress the turbos. Its an easy breathing relatively low boost setup with agressive timing which MRC hope to get good results with.

5-figure bill is only a possibility which includes many things which are not related to this conversion, so can we steer away from this? I think the conversion including fitting for the MRC500 would be up to half what I may end up spending. I have taken the opportunity to have a lot more work done while the motor is out - preventative rather than necessary. Things like Power steering pump etc :)

Can we focus on power and fun rather than money and positive conversation rather than negative? At the end of this I would have spent (ON MRC500) not a lot more than those who have just done standard K04 conversions step by step.

Cheers,

yo leon i wish you all the best dude but have a re-think on the RS4 airbox, maf and ypipe set-up..it,ll help the turbs breath alot better and that,ll make em work less for same results as s4 bits..
