engine temperature
RE: engine temperature
On a Hot hot day, running 0w40 as i do, mobile 1 fully synth, I may reach 120, completely trrashing it on a long treck on the motorway after even 10 miles.
But on a cold day running 350 hp. still on 0w40 Ive never really seen her over 100. Doing exactly the same.
I think I may have to check temp via vag com.
m sure this is possible and maybe you should try and do the same Leon and see what vag come says while youre driving. That will give you a more accurate temp reading.
Get someone in the car to hold the laptoop and check while youre driving. Maybe even log it if possible.

RE: engine temperature
Only time mine has ever got that hot was at a trackdays before moving to stage 3 and having the RS4 oil cooler fitted helps a lot. Takes a lot of work to get it over 100 now.
I'd definetly get that checked. Also if the part is a warranty part that is covered by Audi you might have a case for them replacing the turbos???
Just a thought....

RE: engine temperature
It's the G62 sensor Dippy (which is the coolant temp sensor, not a thermostat) and it is a 5 minute job to change (defo no cambelt off).G61 (IIRC) is dodgy.
I would change this first, as it is known to fail.
Here's where to find it .... http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2388071.phtml

RE: engine temperature
When I bought my car the gauge either didn't work at all or sometimes went up to 60 then other days it went to 90.
It was the Blue temp sensor at the back of the engine.

RE: engine temperature
I got it from Audi, I think it was about 21 quid plus vat and another 35p for the sealing O ring.

RE: engine temperature
I have just replaced the G62 sensor (after run mod?) with the VAGparts part which is blue instead of green. it was an absolute pig of a job as the sensor was stuck solid, and when I put some effort into turning it to try and free it, the outside of the sensor seperated from the rest!! got it sorted in the end though....BUT
My water temp gauge still doesnt work
anyone got anymore ideas?

What side of the engine were you working?fletchie55 wrote:I have just replaced the G62 sensor (after run mod?) with the VAGparts part which is blue instead of green. it was an absolute pig of a job as the sensor was stuck solid, and when I put some effort into turning it to try and free it, the outside of the sensor seperated from the rest!! got it sorted in the end though....BUT

RE: Re: RE: engine temperature
passenger side, the sensor seemed to be connected into a pipe that cam off the coolant resevoir

RE: Re: RE: engine temperature
please tell me I didnt change the wrong sensor cos I have destroyed the one I removed in the process of taking it out! that would be a bit of an arse!
Fletchie55,
I stand to be corrected but i think the sensor you have changed is the one which brings on the fans after a run at a lower temp than the original (5 deg iirc)also known as the after run mod which many of us have done. This is not the correct sensor for the temp gauge.I think i am right in saying that the temp gauge sensor is on the other side of the engine hence MarkB's question. The aw link above is correct as far as i know for the after run mod.
Try doing a search for G62.

bugger! I thought that was the same one! I did ask VAGparts about this, but I happened to mention I wanted a G62 sensor (as advised earlier in this thread) so that is what I got and changed!
on the other hand, it is good to know that there may still be a sensor that can easily be changed to fix the problem. il email them again now, and see what I end up with this time!!

Ah so the temp guage was broke before you started... There is a sensor on the other side much the same sort of location. This one has 4 pins. 2 for the ECU and 2 for the guage.fletchie55 wrote:bugger! I thought that was the same one! When I replaced mine I got a cheaper aftermaket one from DSGWAGEN on ebay for about a tenner. It came with a new clip and o-ring. worked fine for me...
Both mine were a pain to change! HTH
