Get a new retaining clip as well, as this may have become brittle and snap when removed.

Rang up the local Audi dealer (Portsmouth) to order the parts for this mod, the conversation went something like this:

Me: I'd like to order a new thermo switch, part no 021 919369.

Dealer: That's a part for a VW transporter, it will not fit an S4

Me: I'll take a chance, do you have the part in stock?

Dealer: It's a VW part we can't order it.

Cue call to VAG-Parts & mutual slagging of Audi's small mindedness :audibash: parts should be with me for fitting by weekend :D

Cheers,
Mark

I'm not 100% sure if it's the same for the RS4, if you are using the same part numbers then i imagine it would be. Someone will let you know for certain shortly i'm sure :thumb:

My advice is to get your battery tested also, mine went after about six weeks. Replaced with slightly higher capacity version been fine ever since. Top mod cheap and easy.

Does this mod make the cooling ALWAYS come on (ie after a short run, nothing warmed up yet) or just after a run when the car has got fully up to temperature?

Also, what noise does it make?

My car makes some noises when I switch it off after a run- not fans but I can hear a kind of whirring/hissing almost gurgling noise!

Runs an electric fan and water pump. Only runs if water temp exceeds 93oC. Which it can a few minutes after the engine is turned off due to heat built up.

The "whirring/hissing" noise might be the air con, mines makes noises on switxh off too

WHen I shut my engine off I can hear a slightly squeaky sound as something stops moving under the bonnet - as if a belt is slipping or bearings are tight. I would say (and I haven't fully investigated yet) that it is coming from the driver's side of the engine towards the back of the engine. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Drivers side rear of the engine is where my hissing (bad description really) comes from.......I have no fear the noise is not normal.

Graham,

Mine does that as well always thought it was the Aircon....

The afterrun pump mod is no substitute for letting the turbos cool with engine running i.e. with oil flowing.
