RE: DTS or snub mount?

Post by ZeroK66 » Tue Mar 28, 2006 9:42 am

I am thinking the DTS then at a later date getting the snub mount replaced - when the front end comes off for an IC upgrade etc :)

There were some concerns on AW with the DTS solution in the event of an accident - this was around the gearbox being designed to be pushed downwards in a frontal impact - clearly, the DTS would prevent this to some extent. I thought I'd share this, what what it's worth.

The standard car has a bar under the gearbox anyway... I think the changes would be minor surely?

Ha! With all those horses under the bonnet, I can't believe you guys worrying about "in the event of an accident will my engine/gearbox not slide under the car because of my DTS"!

what do you mean Dippy? engine/gearbox is a component of the car crumple mechanism so i thought that was a valid point

I can't see how an AWE DTS can make much difference to engine/gearbox deflection in a head on accident. It connects to the gearbox with a rubber bush ?

As I understand it the DTS has a weak point deliberately designed into it just for this reason.

Yes - audi safety system called "defon 10" isnt it ...? had it on earler cars with seat belt inertia tensioners....
personally Im keeping my ground clearance - its scarce enough as it goes......
also if I had another tit T-bone this car like the tit did my last one, about 55-60mph(combined speed) head on.... I wouldnt want the engine going anywhere except down, that impact ripped my engine and snapped my gearbox mounts ... both ... and stuffed both the flexis flat on my downpipe to the ground .... snub is good way for safety too ....
... just my 2p on it all ..

used to be proconten .audi 80 mk3/4 (last 1 ) a series of cables designed to pull the gearbox and engine forward when there was a front end impact.--good idea -- weighed alot!!

Just installed DTS today and .... What a difference straight away. :thumb:
I can't see the rubber bush on the DTS (with two screws into the rubber) preventing gearbox moving on impact IMHO.
