bogie/buzzard, I think you are making an assumption that people fit a short-shifter just so that they can do 1/4 mile sprints?

It may help with such sprints, but the real benefit is to make the shifting easier and more positive in all aspects of driving. My reason for fitting a short shifter was simply that the stock shift was so long that I kept scrunching the gears when my left foot kept thinking that I'd changed gear before I actually had.

A properly adjusted moderate short-shifter (say 40% reduction) should not affect daily driving whatsoever. My car is a daily family car and I can confidently say that my short-shifter is an improvement in every way with NO drawbacks.

no - just joking re the sprints ;)...I have a short shifter on my Elise and I do like the difference it makes. I bought one for the S4 when I first got it as I really didnt get on with the gearshift, but since then have got used to the std shift so now, so Ive never got around to fitting the shifter.

Im sure it does make it feel better - I just cant be arsed fitting it now Ive got used to it !
cheers

Actually I don't know. It's one that AmD fitted a few years back. I'm sure it's probably a cheap one, and since I've never had any problems with it...

not to happy in being pipped on your shifter bogie but still that is the price you pay for checking things out first!!! but incedently i tried to price a new one up only to be told that with my chassis no. only the later one will do! apperently there are 2 types . one a solid mount and the other a rubber rail config.so only certain suppliers will stock it.

anyone shed any light???
