I've just had a Cliford concept 650 with Intelistart fitted . it's the dog's ------.Remote start ect , also acts as a turbo timer , can be set 2 start if it's too cold or if the battey level goes down . Even with the engine running the alarm is still on , so if a little sh-- looks in the window ( as log as he's within 12in of the glass) the alarm will sound a chirp . The engine will turn of if the brake or acc pedal is pressed . top job by speclist security 01243 582322 GRIZZ

Quite a lot of discussion about intellistart in other forums. Seems to be that remote start may invalidate insurance if stolen and that will also negate the thatcham Cat1 rating of any system.
Personally dont like the idea- starting in gear, security issues and engine idling for long periods cant be good. If youve got concerns bout the turbos just drive cautiously until oil reaches optimum temp.

factory alarm is crap, my door bell is louder than the standard alarm. Went with a clifford on top of the standard alarm.

As for fitting kill switches, hiding keys, etc, i think its a good idea to just let the thief take the car. If they want it that bad they will break into the house and come and wake you when you're in bed, which is not nice. I have heard horrible stories (mostly from up north) of masked men waking people up in thier sleep to ask for the keys immobiliser, alarm code etc.

Guys - been away. Still looking for the web address but I'll make a call tomorrow and make the post. The guy was the spitting image of Prince Naseem, the boxer. But that was a while ago.

Just had a email from specialist security to confirm the cat 1 rating with the intellistart . The way the system works it's not possible to steel the car . The system allso has BLACKJAX that is a anti hijack system . So even if the keys are taken the car will not go more than 50ft before it stops .

After my BMW got nicked I developed a small system (about the size of a £20note, 1inch thick). It ran from battery with back-up and from anywhere in Europe you could dial a phone number and the car would cut out or do whatever it was preset to do - lock doors, flash lighs, horn etc, etc.

It never got traction and Police said they would not endorse it and indeed would actively work against it. it was a road traffic accident waiting to happen, they said it was dangerous. Now every bugger is using it.

This is the same with BlackJax, its not covered by insurance. Blackjax, on Clifford alarms, will immoblise the engine (once the car has come to a stop) after a certain distance if a certain code is not entered within a few seconds of the door closing.
