Yes, there's actually a 12yr warranty "against through rusting of the body panels from the inside". The body is galvanised. But they appear to be interpreting this as not being corrosion from the inside. Slippery b@$£@%ds.

I've got the same problem and it's due in for a service next week so I'm going to ask them to do it under the warranty. Simon, did you ever get anywhere with your problem?

Mine had the same problem in each corner of the boot trim. I spoke to John Fox Audi in Leicester, who booked the car in for inspection. I argued the point of the 12 year corrosion warranty amongst other things. Anyway i got the go ahead to have it done under warranty. So i cant see how one can say Yes and another say No. I'd keep pushing to get it done by them under warranty.

Hi,

Sounds as though this is similar to the "trim piece" that goes along the back on the Avants (mines an RS4 but it is probably the same). Do a search in the RS4 section. I've had mine replaced in the last month under the anti-corrosion warranty with no hassles whatsoever.

It is a known issue with the Avants - something to do with a different alloy.
Hope you get yours sorted.

I thought the paint warranty was for perforation not for surface rust from chips etc. I have a bubble near my rear
number plate and was told by customer services that the paint warranty only covered this if it was perforated
through from the inside.

Well my car's just been in to Reading Audi and they contacted Audi UK for me but sadly they've just coem back to say that they won't give any good-will assistance on this problem. If anyone who has had it done under warranty is happy to give me some proof that I can take to audi and say how come these customers got it covered but I cant... then I'd be most gratefull!

Well, the most that audi will offer is 25% goodwill payment. Better than nothing I spose. Anyone know roughly how much it costs for the new boot handle, respray and fit?

i've got a few bubbles that are appearing on the tailgate and trim part as well, but i dont want to push my luck with my local dealer at the moment..... they have just agreed to replace all 4 WHEELS on my TT, (which is up for sale) due to paint flaking off around the bolts on the split rim multispoke BBS factory fit wheels........they get fitted today.

so i think i'll leave it a month before going in and asking about the tailgate on the S4....

Common problem with proof but still no joy from dealers!

Post by BrilliantBlack » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:44 pm

I have this problem on both A4 cars I have. A4 1.8TQS 2000 and a 99 2.7T S4. A4 is Ebony Black, S4 is Brilliant Black. Both have paint bubbles on the boot lip at either side. The A4 has the problem on the triangle on the rear doors, on the window. I took both cars into Audi and even though both cars were starring them in the face as a geniune design fault they still denied me any repair. One mechanic spoke off record and said we have had many complaints regarding this very issue in the exact area. Its caused by the actual material of the alloy used and movement/flex in the car. Over time this breaks down and corrosion sets in.

Had a quote from a Audi approved sprayer for £250 for the boot, anyone had other quotes so I can compare price etc...

Mine too - my dealer stated that it wasn't covered and I have written to Audi Customer Care about it with photos and am awaiting a reply. It is very odd because the corrosion has started in exactly the same spot on both sides of the car i.e. bottom edge alongside the window and door.

Tell Audi customer services that you will issue a small claims court claim.............. :audibash: and do it!!
As it is a known fault, my argument on another issue.
You will get sorted.(promise)
