as it turns out, i've been told that you can't actually use the Hitachi MAF if your car has the Bosch one as the electrical connector is different!

Shame really as it appears the Hitachi unit is very stable indeed.

Dippy, it would appear there are quite a few changes made on your Vin range onwards. Did you know for example that the Left hand intercooler is slightly different, and that there appears to be revisions to the charge air hoses connecting the turbo etc.

It is widely quoted that the turbo oil feed lines changed, however I can't find any evidence of this in ETKA, unlike the air hoses etc..

Well that was one of the reasons I went to the effort of buying my S4 from new - being one of the last, it had all the latest updates so the risk of failures is minimised. Shame that Audi never sorted the washer bottle leak problem though - it seems to affect every S4, including mine.

I too tried to find out about the revised turbos. The only thing that exists is the US Technical bulletin (I have a copy on my Bentley CD, but due to my PC crashing I need to get Bentley to reauthorise my license...)
2001 Silver S4 Avant
AmD remap, APR R1 DVs, APR bipipe, Full Miltek exhaust
H&R coilovers, AWE DTS, Porsche front brakes, Short-shifter, 18" RS4 replicas
Defi-HUD boost gauge / turbo-timer (with afterrun pump modification), Phatbox
