You can only buy synta oils from VAG dealers, although I think ECP (Euro Car Parts) may sell it too now.
From my VW days I'm pretty sure the Synta oils are infact rebadged Duckhams oils.
My local dealer will sell synta in barrels if you want that much, as to buy it in litre bottles is very costly.
You should ideally change the filter whenever you change the oil, but this will depend on just how dirty the old oil was.
HTH.
Cheers,
John.
Which oil should i use after remap?
Re: Which oil should i use after remap?
Too many toys, not enough time
Re: Which oil should i use after remap?
As John writes, it is always best to change the oil filter every time. The reason is that the oil filter keeps particles out of the oil in circulation, but it is not 100% effective all the time. So by keeping the filter you increase the risk of particles being released into circulation and these can increase long term wear.
Since the oil costs around £50, the extra £15 for the filter doesn't seem too much. Plus I always change the oil drain plug and washer for a new one to ensure a good seal, and they don't cost much (less than £1 IIRC).
Having said that, not changing the filter is hardly a serious problem, especially if you are changing the oil regularly anyway.
Yes I do consider the full Miltek system a big advantage, even though it does increase the noise a fair bit (but not so much that people notice - which is good for me and not so good for those people who wear baseball caps when driving).
I can't remember the exact figures, but it significantly increases power at the top end. As you know, the S4 engine runs out of steam at around 5500 rpm, meaning that it is nearly always best to change gear before then. With the full Miltek system the power delivery stays almost linear up to the redline (about 7200 rpm on my car).
IMO this is 99% due to the cats. I am dubious as to how much benefit there is beyond the cats. Nevertheless if I were to buy the system again I would take the dual pipe version just to be certain that the flow rate is as unresticted as possible.
P.S. You NEED to have a remap after having cats upgraded because you WILL need extra fuelling at the top end.

Re: Which oil should i use after remap?
I would normally buy Syntagold from my local German & Swedish parts shop. It is about £21 +vat for a 5 litre job.
Seems to do the trick and is reasonably priced compared to about £32-35 for Mobil 1.

I belive Synta is in fact made by Quantum, you may remember the name... VAG bought them some time ago.
I've run my Revo LCR on it for 20k with no probs.
